PowerStudies.com has an open position for a full time Electrical

Engineer Protection Specialist in our Covington location. We also

hire Engineers who can work remotely and independently from other

cities and States. Duties will include performing various power

system studies. Types of power system studies include:



 Short Circuit  Protective Device Coordination

 Arc Flash  Harmonic

 Motor Starting  Load Flow

Job Description

Job Title: Electrical Engineer – Protection Specialist

Reports To: All Staff

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Location: Covington or Remote Locations

Summary: Performs electrical power system studies. Provides power quality and

electrical commissioning services. Models electrical engineering information from

drawings and submittals. Simulates load flow, short circuit, and harmonic studies using

computer programs.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other

duties may be assigned.



Power System Studies - Calls electrical contractors, distributors,

manufacturers, and utilities to request drawings and other information. Obtains

electrical drawings, equipment submittals, and other equipment nameplate data.



Reviews drawings and nameplate data.



Makes site visits to obtain nameplate data for studies.



Enters equipment and distribution system data into computer program (ACCESS,

SKM-Captor/Dapper, or EDSA).



Reviews results of computer calculations and compare them to equipment

protection limits. (SC Studies)



Creates Color Time Current Curves demonstrating device coordination. (PDC

Study)



Determines amount of capacitance and location of power factor correction

capacitors. (PF Studies)



Creates sketches and drawings needed for design jobs.



Witnesses electrical technicians testing electrical equipment. (Commissioning)



Writes reports listing the study results and list of recommendations.

Power Quality Trouble Shooting Services



Calls on clients to identify, troubleshoot, and provide recommendations for

correcting various power quality problems. The engineer will use a variety of

electrical meters, computers, and other tools to assist in the investigation. The

engineer will create reports outlining the problem, analysis, and recommendations.



Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each

Education/Experience:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B. S.E.E.) degree from four-year

college or university majoring in Power Generation/Distribution or a B.S.E.E.

degree with at least four years related experience in Power Generation or

Distribution.



Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional

journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write

reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively

present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients,

customers, and the general public. Must have exceptional customer service and

phone conversation skills.



Math Ability:

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms,

quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations

to such tasks as short circuit, protective device coordination, load flow, power

factor, transient, and stability analyses.



Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of

intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism

(formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult

phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.



Computer Skills (Required):

Word processing (Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), Internet software, E-mail,

Computer Skills (Recommended experience but not

required):

Database (ACCESS), Contact Management (ACT!), Power System Analysis

software (SKM-Captor/Dapper, EDSA, ETAP) software.



Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
