COM object technology. Responsibilities focused on product planning, definition of
marketing and sales programs, client relations, project management and development of
professional materials. Karen also played a significant role in most aspects of the
Product Development Life Cycle.

Background highlights:
Developed and executed the strategic plan for integrated information management,
enabling the product suite to be brought to market. This included repatriation of
third-party development, management of beta implementations and coordination of
in-house development. Rapid Application Development techniques were employed
to ensure speed of deployment.
Established the Professional Services Team, including developmental and training
programs, defining the implementation methodology and establishing support tools
and services. Achieved goals included softening the internal and external learning
curve - facilitating acceptance, installation and ownership of the systems.
Defined the standards for Product Management within the corporation, including
development of Product Plans, Product Life Cycle, Quality Assurance and Business
Analysis methodology.
Authored published materials regarding the product suite - White Papers, Product
Focus, marketing and sales literature.
Developed and adjudicated the evaluation and remediation pan for Y2K compliance

Responsible for product management and application consulting related to Diagnostic
Imaging, Clinic Administration and Patient & Resource Scheduling applications.
Background highlights include:
Successful migration of the Radiology Information System from a VAX/VMS
platform to a client/server, UNIX-based operating system.
Product management consulting through the development of an expert-system
scheduling product, running under MS Windows, utilizing object-oriented
technology. The product development team included professors of mathematics and
engineering, systems analysts, senior programmers, implementors and technical
support staff.
Coordinating the implementation of all patient administration applications for the
province of Prince Edward Island. This included ADT/CPI, Statistics, Radiology,
Emergency Patient Information and the Clinic Administration System.

Managing the beta install and future requirements of the Enterprise Membership
Index – a multi-disciplinary, multi-facility application utilizing the Sybase database
and VB development. Future development is supported by Visual C++ and
successive approximation/fuzzy logic.
Development of demonstration prototypes and marketing tools, including
representation at local, national and international trade shows. Coordinating and
responding to RFI/RFP and contractual agreements.

A major retailer with more than 200 stores across Canada. Each store averages 120
employees. Responsible for all procedures relating to information systems and financial
operations:
Supervised implementation of electronic processing and information systems in
Western Region, defining process re-engineering methodology.
Completion of fiscal operating reports, including profit and loss, operational cash and
accumulative statistics.
Completion of district audits, overseeing accounts payable/receivable, payroll and
related personnel functions
Investigated instances of inventory and operational losses in the district leading to
successful prosecution of fraud and computer theft totaling over $920,000. Revised
auditing and control procedures, and participated in associated court action to recover
losses.
