Steps to Develop a PowerPoint Presentation
Follow the steps listed on the next few pages to develop a new eight slide PowerPoint presentation.
The presentation you create will trace the process I recommend for creating a presentation in an
efficient manner. Begin the process in the Outline View and then follow the subsequent steps.
Enter your presentation text in Outline view
Choose Outline view by clicking the Outline View icon
To create the first slide:
Type: Creating a PowerPoint Presentation
Press ENTER, then TAB to add a slide bullet
Type: By YOUR NAME (enter your own name)
Press ENTER
To create the second slide:
Hold down the Shift key and press TAB
Type: Select Your Presentation Template
Press ENTER, then TAB to add a slide bullet
Type: Choose presentation designs
Press ENTER to add another slide bullet
Type: Use preview to guide choice
Press ENTER to add a third slide bullet
Type: Click OK to select choice
Press ENTER
Now, to create a third slide
Hold down the Shift key and press TAB
Type: Use Outline View to Enter ideas
Press ENTER, then TAB to add a slide bullet
Type: Click on Outline View button to select it
Press ENTER to add a slide bullet
Type: Use ENTER key to add slides
Press ENTER to add another slide bullet
Type: Use Tab key to add bullets
Press ENTER to add a third slide bullet
Type: Use Shift and Tab key to promote points
Press ENTER
Now, to create a fourth slide
Hold down the Shift key and press TAB
Type: Use Slide View to Enhance Slides
Press ENTER, then TAB to add a slide bullet
Type: Add clip art
Press ENTER to add another slide bullet
Type: Change text
Press ENTER, then TAB to add a sub-bullet
Type: Text font and size
Press ENTER to add another sub-bullet
Type: Text style and color
Press ENTER
Now, to create a fifth slide
Hold down the Shift key and press TAB twice
Type: Use Slide View to Animate Slide Objects
Press ENTER, then TAB to add a slide bullet
Type: Click to select custom animation button
Press ENTER to add another slide bullet
Type: Select slide objects to animate
Press ENTER to add a third slide bullet
Type: Determine animation order
Press ENTER to add a fourth slide bullet
Type: Determine animation effects

Next, to create a sixth slide
Hold down the Shift key and press TAB twice
Type: Slide Sorter for Transitions & Builds
Press ENTER, then TAB to add a slide bullet
Type: Select transition criteria:
Press ENTER, then TAB to add a sub-bullet
Type: Transition effect
Press ENTER to add another sub-bullet
Type: Transition speed
Press ENTER to add a third sub-bullet
Type: Transition advance and sound
Then, hold down Shift & press TAB for a bullet
Type: Select Build Effect
Press ENTER
Now, to create a seventh slide
Hold down the Shift key and press TAB
Type: Develop Support Materials
Press ENTER, then TAB to add a slide bullet
Type: Notes Master to design notes view
Press ENTER to add another slide bullet
Type: Notes View to create lecture notes
Press ENTER to add a third slide bullet
Type: Handout Master to design printouts
Press ENTER to add another slide bullet

Type: Spell checker to catch errors
Press ENTER to add another slide bullet
Type: Slide Show View for practice
Press ENTER
Finally, to create an eighth slide
Hold down the Shift key and press TAB
Type: The Final Steps
Press ENTER, then TAB to add a slide bullet
Type: Print support materials
Press ENTER, then TAB to add a sub-bullet
Type: Print lecture notes
Press ENTER to add another sub-bullet
Type: Print handouts and outline
Press the ENTER key
Hold down the Shift key and press TAB
Type: Assemble equipment
Press ENTER to add another slide bullet
Type: Deliver presentation
Don’t press the ENTER key this time
Now that the text outline for your presentation is done, let's save the presentation on a
disk, then enhance it. To save the presentation (put the disk in the drive), follow these
steps.
Save the presentation
Use the SAVE AS command (under File)
Select your data disk and name the file: Process
Now that your presentation is saved on your Data Disk, follow these steps to add
enhancements to it.
Apply Design (Format menu)
Select slide sorter view with Slide Sorter icon
Use Apply Design command (Format)
Select Notebook (or whatever) by clicking on it

Recycle until satisfied with appearance
Enhance 1st slide with clip art
Double click on Slide 1 to view 1st slide
Use Clip Art command (under Insert Picture)
Select clip art you prefer by double clicking on it
Resize & position clip art by clicking & dragging
Enhance 1st slide with text
Click to select Creating a PowerPoint Presentation
Change Font, Size, Style, & Color (Format)
Click to select YOUR NAME as presenter
Change Font, Size, Style, & Color from toolbar
Use Text Box tool (A on tools palette) to add text
Enhance 2nd slide with clip art
Use slide bars (far right) to see 2nd slide
Use Clip Art command (under Insert Picture)
Select clip art you prefer by double clicking on it
Resize & position clip art by clicking & dragging
Enhance 2nd slide with text
Click to highlight Select Your Presentation Template
Change Font, Size, Style, & Color (under Format)
Click to select the bulleted text
Change Font, Size, Style, & Color (under Format)
Enhance 3rd slide with clip art
Use slide bars (far right) to see 3rd slide

Select clip art you prefer by double clicking on it
Resize & position clip art by clicking & dragging

Use the same steps to add enhancements to Slides 4 through 8. Now, you will further
enhance the slide show by animating the objects on your slides.
Use Slide View to animate objects
Use slide bars (far right) and drag up to see slide 1
Animate objects on the 1st slide
Click on the Custom Animation button on toolbar
Animate Title by selecting it, then clicking Animate
Animate Text: select it, then click Animate
Animate Object: select it, then click Animate
Use Animation Order to sequence order of events
Click on Effects label on Custom Animation window
Set Title Effect: click on title, then select effects
Set Text Effect: click on Text, then select effects
Set Object Effect: click on Object, then select effects
Click on Preview to inspect your Animation results
Animate objects on the 2nd slide
Use slide bars (far right) to see 2nd slide
Click on the Custom Animation button on toolbar

Use the same steps to animate objects on Slides 4 through 8. The next step is to further
enhance the slide show by adding slide transitions.
Use Slide Sorter to add transitions
Click on Slide Sorter icon (bottom of screen)
Select Slide 1 (by clicking on it)
Add transition with Slide Transition button (far left)
Change effect (by clicking & dragging to select)
Change speed (by clicking on choice)
Change sound-if you must-(by clicking & dragging)
Select Slide 2 (by clicking on it)
Add transition with Slide Transition button (far left)
Change effect (by clicking & dragging to select)
Change speed (by clicking on choice)
Change sound (by clicking & dragging)
Select Slide 3 (by clicking on it)
Add transition with Slide Transition button (far left)
Change effect (by clicking & dragging to select)
Change speed (by clicking on choice)
Change sound (by clicking & dragging)
Use the same steps to add transitions to Slides 4 through 8. Now, use the Slide Show
option to view the presentation at the same time you create an automatic, timed slide
show.

Use Rehearse Timings command (under Slide Show)
Click the mouse button to advance
Note the digital clock display recording your time
Notice your slide transitions
Notice the bullet effects on your build slides
Notice the animation effects of animated objects
Save timings when presentation is complete

ReSave the presentation
The ESC key will interrupt presentation (if wished)
Now, we'll use the Handout Master view to add a title and footer to the handout pages
that you'll print on paper to support your presentation.
Using the Handout Master
Use Handout Master command (under View—>Master)
Use the Insert Text Box command (under Insert)
Next, click on top of the page to locate Title text box
Type your title: Creating PowerPoint Presentations
Use the Insert Text Box command (under Insert)
Click on page bottom to locate a footer text box
Type Page and press spacebar
Now, use the Page Number command (under Insert)
Examine choices by clicking on handout palette:
Now, we'll use the Print command to actually determine what pages to printout in
support of your presentation.
Examine Printing Procedures
Select Print command (under File)
Select what to print (Click to right of Print What:)
Handouts (6 slides per page)
Click to cancel the Print process
Now, you should save your presentation again to include the enhancements you've
added to it.

Use the SAVE command (under File)
