Catalog Description: This class provides safe and effective conditioning of the body
through core, leg and arm dance moves. This is done by isolating moves in various parts
of your body and combining them into dance choreography.
Course Description: Students will perform beginner belly dance moves in core, leg and
arms by isolating muscle use. Combined moves to music choreography will accomplish
an aerobic exercise workout. Each class will consist of the following:
1. Warm up exercises
2. Core building exercises
3. Isolation of moves in each body part
4. Combination as part of choreography to a dance
5. Cool down
Course Objectives and Goals: Students will learn proper belly dance posture to prevent
injuries. Students will learn how each body part move affects core to execute belly dance
moves properly. Students will gain flexibility, mobility and posture. This class will also
provide students with dance choreography they can perform at home for exercise or
perform in public.

Method of Instruction: This course will demonstrate beginning dance moves and
combine them into choreography that eventually will produce and entire dance that can
be practiced at home. Students will be taught in a group dance environment. In addition,
students will receive individual coaching.
Required Text: There is not a required text for this course. However, you are required to
mark your attendance of each class. A complete medical history evaluation may also be
required before starting this course.
Recommended equipment:
Comfortable and supportive clothing, no jeans. (no shoes required)
Bottle of water
Decorative scarf or coin belt for waist (not required but recommended)
Grading System: This class is based on the pass or fail system. A pass (P) indicates that
a student has passed the course, but grade points do not accumulate on the transcript.
Credits will be earned for a (P) grade. A withdraw (W) indicates that a student has not
passed the course or has formally withdrawn from the class. A withdraw (W) is reported
on the transcript. No credit will be earned for a (W) grade.
Auditing this course: If you want to participate in this class but not want to receive
credit, you may enroll as an auditor. When you audit, you are not obligated to attend or
participate in class activities. You do not get a reduced fee as an auditor. If you decide,
however, to change from audit status to credit status, you must do so in person in the
Admissions and Records Office during the official registration period. Should you wish
to change from credit to audit, you must obtain the Audit Form from the Admissions and
Records Office, have it signed by your instructors, and then return it to the Admissions
and Records Offices during the first six weeks of the semester.
Participation: Those who actively participate in 60% of the classes offered during the
semester will obtain a (P). This allows you 15 absences. You can make up missed
classes by making arrangements with me anytime during the semester. Should any
special circumstances arise that may affect your participation in the class, please contact
me right away. Holidays when the campus is closed and finals week, no class will be
scheduled and will not count as an absence against you. Students who are enrolled both
in this class and Student Open Workout may not apply the hours gained in class for their
Open Workout class.
