The greatest Oktoberfest in New York is in Central Park!! This event features 15 groups from
Germany and Austria that will be in town from their respective countries to march in the 53rd
Annual German-American Steuben Parade earlier in the day. Hundreds of local and national
groups from as far as California and Texas will also be in attendance! Each band from Germany
will perform during this awesome display of Bavarian culture in America! Local entertainment
will also be at hand.
The event, the major fundraiser for the German-American Steuben Parade, attracts over 5,000
attendees each year, and features six giant trucks loaded with fresh imported German beer,
traditional food like wurst and herring, and lots and lots of Oompah music! Our Grand Marshal,
Dr. Ruth Westheimer, will be tapping a ceremonial wooden beer keg, flown to NY for these
festivities from the site of the original Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany.
In addition, don't miss the Second Annual National "Masskrugstemmen" (stein holding)
Championship ... a display of strength and endurance, featuring contestants from all over the
United States, flown to New York City in order to compete for a first prize trip to Munich,
Germany, courtesy of Hofbrau Bier, NA and the German-American Steuben Parade!
