I. CCC Confer Meeting: New Applications for Credit Program Approval (2:00-3:30 pm)

The Curriculum Committee participated in a CCC Confer session regarding New

Applications for Credit Approval, which focused on the need to convert non-compliant

degrees and/or certificates to compliant degrees and/or certificates. Noncompliant degrees

at Skyline appear to be the Liberal Studies and University Studies majors, which do not have

a Title 5 mandated “area of emphasis.”

In discussion after the CCC Confer session, Social Science/Creative Arts Dean Donna

Bestock indicated that if the college is willing to increase the unit requirement from 18 to 21

units, an area of emphasis in Liberal Arts, and likely University Studies, could be developed.

Dean Bestock added that many transfer institutions give students an opportunity to

customize their degree, and Skyline might be able to incorporate that approach. Persis

Morrice advised the group that there are approximately 150 Liberal Arts and 50 University

Studies majors each year.
