Discussion on SSB Form Revision
The form entitled “What if You and Your Counselor Disagree” had
been sent to committee members prior to the meeting for their
review. After the document was read to the committee, the
following questions/suggestions were made:
It was suggested that the committee should work as a team
to revise this form.
One question raised was as follows: would people who are
ASL users understand this form?
1. Lynette and Kimberly agreed that the form was
somewhat confusing to them – especially the steps 1-
4 – do all of the steps need to be completed?
2. The suggestion was made to add something at the end
of each step that would indicate: if this step does not
work, go to the next step.
The committee agreed that the form could be condensed
It was suggested that everyone think about this form and
send any suggestions to Linda Lingen. She will put all the
suggestions together and come with a revised form to the
next DeafBlind Committee meeting.
Announcements from Committee Members
MDBA will be hosting a summer social in the community
center at Mike O’Reilly’s residence.
There is a proposal to have a DeafBlind camp in 2010 at the
earliest. A group of DB service providers and MDBA met to
discuss this idea with Courage Center which has two
camping areas – one in Northern Minnesota and one close
to the Twin Cities. This group has only met once, and
further details will come later. Ade Haugen is the
chairperson of this group working with Lee Clark from the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services – Department of Human
Services. Stay tuned for more information.
MDBA may be sponsoring a fundraiser to support the fall
banquet. More details will be available later.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 PM. Since neither Joni
Anderson nor Mike O’Reilly can attend the June meeting as
scheduled, no date has been set for the next meeting of the
DeafBlind Committee. Minutes respectfully submitted by Linda
Lingen, SSB staff to the DeafBlind Committee of the State
Rehabilitation Council – Blind.
