Conquest Wyatt of Boxley patented lands on Hoccadie's Creek near his old home in 1672. He was an influential

He was a grand-nephew of Sir Francis Wyatt, governor of Virginia 1621-7 and 1639-41. Sir Francis is given credit for

organizing the first legislative body in the American colonies and producing the first written constitution.

In the book "Adventurers of Purse and Person, Virginia, 1607-1625", it is written that he was "a minor in 1672", being

Conquest Wiatt (Wyatt) was born about 1652 at Boxley, Gloucester County,

Virginia and died about 1708/09 at Upton Plantation in the same county. In

1669 he married Sallie Pate (1652-1750), the daughter of Col. Thomas Pate of

Petsworth Parish, Gloucester County. Conquest was heir to his father's lands as a minor in 1672, and he was assigned

a patent of 350 acres on Hocaddis Creek, which adjoined the land he inherited from his father. The patent refers to him

as "son and heir of Edward Wiatt, of Gloucester County, Virginia" and states that his father had died testate.

According to the Tax Poll of 1672, Conquest was largest property holder in Petsworth

Parish with 2,200 acres. In 1674/75 his guardian brought suit against Bartholomew Austin concerning a lease let by
