We would like to advise AACPS employees of the availability of seasonal flu vaccines this year. The 2010-2011
flu vaccine will protect against 2009 H1N1 (swine) flu, as well as other strains of seasonal flu. The Department of
Health has already begun its immunization clinics to provide flu vaccine to county residents. There are no
restrictions on who may receive the vaccine, so all employees are encouraged to protect themselves by attending
one of the clinics. Although the vaccine is free, donations are encouraged. The Department of Health flu clinics
are listed in the attached flyer. Please check the Department of Health website at www.aahealth.org (Seasonal
Flu Vaccine Clinics) or call 410-222-7343 for more information and to see if more clinics are added. Also
attached is a list of “Tips to Prevent the Flu” from the Department of Health website. Please post these flyers.
A number of other flu vaccine clinics have been planned for county residents:
Baltimore Washington Medical Center will offer free flu shots on Friday, October 22 from 2-6 p.m. at
the Severna Park Community Center, 623 B&A Boulevard. Call 410-787-4367 for more information.
Giant Food will offer flu shots for a cost of $30 (use your Giant card and save $5). Go to
www.giantfood.com (Shop Online) to find a local Giant pharmacist able to administer vaccinations, or call
410-995-4322.
The “Flu Shot Clinics for Kmart” information line is 1-800-822-8345 for details on clinics in the area (just
key in your zip code). The flu shot costs $25.00.
Maxim Health Systems Clinics offer flu shots to the public. Aetna members will be able to obtain flu
shots from any Maxim Health Systems clinic location at a $10 copay. If an Aetna ID card is presented,
Maxim will not collect a fee at the clinic. Maxim will first bill Aetna and will later bill the member for the
copay amount due. Non-Aetna members (or those not presenting their ID card) will be asked to pay the
public fee at the time the shot is administered. Find the nearest Maxim flu clinic by going to Maxim's
website at www.findaflushot.com, or by calling Maxim's automated locater system at 1-866-466-2976.
Minute Clinic (located in select CVS stores) offers flu shots with different levels of reimbursement.
Aetna members pay a $10 specialist co-pay.
CareFirst will cover claims up to your $250 annual physical maximum under the PPN plan. If the claim is
submitted for an injection only, it will be covered at 100% of allowed benefit, with no co-pay. If the claim
is submitted in conjunction with an office visit, a $15 co-pay will apply. Minute Clinic will submit the claim
directly to CareFirst. CareFirst will adjudicate each claim on its own merit. If a member has used up their
$250 amount for the year, nothing will be paid. BlueChoice and Triple Option members will pay a $10
specialist co-pay.
Go to www.minuteclinic.com/flu/ for more information and locations.
Safeway will offer flu shots October through February for a cost of $30. Go to www.safeway.com for the
flu shot clinic locator, or call 1-877-723-3929.
Visit the American Lung Association’s flu clinic locator at www.flucliniclocator.org to find clinics at
grocery and drug stores and to learn more about the flu.

Please note that if your primary care physician has the vaccine available, it is covered at the usual AACPS office
visit co-pay (depending on your healthcare plan). Starting January 1, 2011, there is no co-pay for preventive care
including flu shots provided in-network, as a result of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
Questions should be addressed to Angela Barber, Benefits Specialist, at (410) 222-5221.
Thank you.
