Local Business Exceeds Local Standards For “Going Green”
Butler, PA – March 29, 2011 – “Going Green” is not just for large corporations: a locally owned,
family-operated business has far exceeded national standards of most large corporations.
With a federally mandated requirement of using 5% of renewable energy, Chicora Medical
Center, Fair Winds Manor, Sugar Creek Rest and Trinity Living Center are preserving our
environment by using 15% renewable energy. All four family-operated nursing homes are
pleased to use three times the minimums, despite the additional cost for the organization, because
just like our planet, healthcare needs long-term planning.
“For over 35 years our family has been caring for the needs of our residents, so evolving our
business to care for the environment was the next logical step” said Mary Susan Tack-Yurek,
Chief Quality Officer of Quality Life Services, mother company of Chicora Medical Center, Fair
Winds Manor, Sugar Creek Rest and Trinity Living Center. Tack-Yurek is part of the third
generation of the Tack Family to manage eight nursing homes offering a variety of long-term
care and living options.
Quality Life Services companies are also participating in “green” practices including the
partnership with Cintas which recycles destroyed documents. Staff and residents of the homes
have initiated and continually execute the basic recycling of cans, plastic and print materials.
Chicora Medical Center and Sugar Creek Rest have installed high efficiency furnaces as well as
energy efficient windows. Trinity Living Center donates the proceeds from recycling aluminum
cans to a local animal shelter where old blankets and linens have been donated as well. Over time
these efforts will prove beneficial to our communities and environment.
