A flour mill was important to Middleton at the turn of the century. In 1871, Mr.
Stephenson and Mr. Issacs built a flour mill in Middleton. It was a two story white
building. Water from the Middleton Mill Ditch ran the water wheel. By November of
1871 it was up and running. Soon after Mr. Issacs sold his share. The mill was important
to local farmers because it made flour and cornmeal from their grain. Samuel Foote
managed the mill for 6 years and then bought it in 1877. The mill eventually moved to
Caldwell to be closer to the railroad tracks. It was run by steam instead of water. It
burned to the ground in 1905. At the end of the century our school, Mill Creek Primary,
was built in 1997 and named in honor of the mill and the ditch that still exsists.
