2010 SEASON REVIEW

The team headed into the Region XI tournament as the #3 seed. They opened up with a strong 11-3 victory over Ellsworth CC. Joey

Flattery threw a 3-hitter and Nick Johnson hit a grand slam in the first inning to ignite the offense. The game ended early due to the

8-run mercy rule.

Next up was Southeastern CC. Cox was excellent in throwing 8.1 innings of shutout baseball. David Borchardt collected 3 hits and

drove in 2. Keele and Eric Swain each homered. The win put Iowa Central as the only unbeaten team left in the tournament.

Iowa Central had to play Southeastern CC again in the next round. This time Rimer threw a complete game for a 6-4 victory. The

Tritons’ defense turned 3 double plays to key the win. Keele and Swain homered again and Judkins drove in 2.

The Region XI championship pitted Iowa Central vs. Ellsworth CC. Siefken threw 7 strong innings and then got some relief help from

Borchardt in a 12-6 win. After falling behind early, the Tritons stormed back with the help of Leadley’s 3 RBI and Johnson’s 10th home

run of the season. The win wrapped up the 11th Region XI championship in the past 15 years.

The next round of tournament was the North Plains District tournament in Miles City, Montana. The Tritons would have to beat Miles

CC and Williston College out of North Dakota. Iowa Central opened with the host Miles CC. After taking a 6 run lead, the Tritons put

the game away in the 8th inning with 8 more runs. Cox picked up the win with relief help from Cory Buckley. Swain drove in 4 and

Borchardt and Johnson each drove in 3. All 3 hit home runs with Swain’s being a grand slam.

Game 2 was a blowout as Iowa Central blasted Williston by the score of 11-1. Joey Flattery threw a complete game 2 hitter. Keele

hit his school record-tying 17th home run of the season. Six of the nine Triton hitters collected 2 hits each with Keele and Johnson

driving in 3.

The tournament clincher was a 10-3 win over Miles CC. After falling behind 3-0 early, the offense scored 10 runs over their final 5 at-

bats to win the tournament. Johnson and Borchardt each drove in 2 runs. The win sent the Tritons onto their 9th trip to the NJCAA II

World Series in Enid, Oklahoma. The 9th trip tied the national record for appearances with Grand Rapids CC.

Game 1 at the World Series was a nail-biter versus Vincennes College from Indiana. With the game tied at 4 in the 8th, Keele singled

2010 World Series with one out to get the momentum on Iowa Central’s side. After being balked to second base, Keele stole third on the next pitch. The

throw down to third sailed wide and into leftfield which allowed Keele to score the go ahead run. Siefken was brilliant in relief sitting

Enid, Oklahoma down the final 7 guys in order including striking out the side in the 9th. Colwell drove in 2 runs to lead the offense.

The win sent Iowa Central into the second round versus Avery Point CC from Connecticut. The Tritons were in control the entire contest

in winning 9-1. Joey Flattery and Buckley combined for a 2 hitter and struck out 10 in 8 innings of work. Leadley, Judkins, and

Borchardt each had 2 hits and Borchardt and Swain each drove in 2.

Next up for Iowa Central was the #1 ranked Western Oklahoma team. Western Oklahoma steam-rolled Iowa Central 12-1. The loss

knocked the Tritons into the losers’ bracket, and a game with LSU-Eunice.

The 2010 season started as an opportunity to rebound from a disappointing 2009 season and ended up with a national record-tying

performance. The 2010 Tritons finished with a 50-17 record and stormed their way through the post-season to a 4th place finish at LSU-Eunice knocked the Tritons out of the tournament with a sound 15-4
