Police clearance certificates
This information is for applicants not resident in the Federal Republic of Germany. Issuer Police clearance certificates are issued by the Federal Central Register of the Federal Office of Justice, whose address is as follows: Bundesamt für Justiz - Bundeszentralregister – Sachgebiet IV21/IR 53094 Bonn Germany Application procedure Minimum age of applicant is 14. All applications must be made in person by the person to whom the certificate relates; no representative (including a lawyer) can apply. Applications should include the applicant's personal details, and must be signed personally by the applicant. The application and signature must be officially certified; this can be done by any German embassy or consulate (fee 15,00 Euro in £ Sterling), by a public authority in the United Kingdom or by a notary public. Alternatively a certified copy of an official passport containing the personal details referred to in the application form can be submitted. The photocopy has to be signed by the applicant prior to certification. Cost The fee for issue for a police clearance certificate is 13.00 Euro, payable in advance to: Deutsche Bundesbank Filiale Bonn Bank code: 380 000 00 Account name: Bundesamt für Justiz Account number: 380 01005, BIC/swift MARKDEF1380, IBAN DE24 3800 0000 0038 001005. Payment can also be made by cheque. Cheques must be made out in Euro and drawn from a German bank. Cheques from the UK can also be made out in pound Sterling. Please contact the legalisation department for further details and exchange rate. No certificate can be issued until the fee has been paid or appropriate proof of payment is provided. General information The certificate can only be sent to the applicant personally at his/her private address. On specific request, it may also be sent to a public authority in Germany; in this case, the address of the authority, intended purpose and/or file number should be provided. A police clearance certificate is only available in German. Its contents are governed by law.
