SENIOR YEAR CALENDAR
PLEASE USE THIS CALENDAR AS A GUIDE FOR SENIOR YEAR. KEEP IT IN AN
ACCESSIBLE PLACE FOR REFERENCE.
The following information is a general guide that will aid you in fulfilling your
responsibilities during senior year. It is to your advantage to work closely with your
counselor throughout the year, so feel free to use her services as often as necessary.
JULY
Continue to work on the Student Activity Resume. The template for this form can be found
on the Family Connection site.
Review your transcript for accuracy.
Obtain college applications, catalogs, financial aid information and set up visitation dates,
auditions, portfolio reviews and/or interviews.
Begin working on your college essays.
AUGUST
7 Registration deadline for September 12th ACT
Call for ROTC scholarship information, if interested. Air Force = 631-979-5791;
Army = 631-673-7139; Navy = 516-937-0399; Marines = 516-271-5055.
If you are seeking a nomination to a service academy, contact Congressman Israel’s office
at 631-951-2210, Senator Gillibrand’s office at 212-688-6262, Senator Schumer’s office at
212-486-4430.
Register online at collegeboard.com for the SAT tests; register online at actstudent.org for
ACT tests.
Continue strategy for SAT/ACT preparation.
BEFORE AN APPLICATION CAN BE PROCESSED 2 - 3 “TEACHER
COMMENT” forms (Green), a “STUDENT ACTIVITY RESUME” and a
“COUNSELOR RECOMMENDATION” form (Blue) MUST BE SUBMITTED TO
YOUR COUNSELOR.
SEPTEMBER
8 Registration deadline for October 10th SAT / SAT Subject Tests.
12 ACT - Test NOT OFFERED at Northport High School
18 Registration Deadline for October 24th ACT-
Test NOT OFFERED at Northport High School
24 Open House 7:00 p.m.
Senior Parent Workshop - Small Cafeteria - 6:00 p.m.
Obtain applications and schedule interviews, auditions, portfolio presentations, college
visitations.
Review college applications to see if you need any separate letters for teacher
recommendations. If so, see your counselor for the Yellow Form.
The applications for Suffolk and Nassau Community Colleges and the Common application
will be available in the Counseling Center.
Athletes interested in playing intercollegiate sports need to complete and send NCAA Initial
Eligibility Clearinghouse Form (available online at ncaaclearinghouse.net).
Senior Career Groups begin.
Check the college representative visitation schedule that will be posted on the Senior
Bulletin Board for upcoming college rep. visitations. The list will also be on the Family
Connection.
Check Family Connection to see whether your green teacher comments forms have been
returned. If necessary, make an appointment with your counselor to finalize post-high
school plans.
OCTOBER
1 Start submitting completed college applications. Follow the recommended process
outlined by your counselors.
Some colleges may require a Financial Aid CSS PROFILE; check to see if this pertains to
one of your college choices. PROFILE paperwork may be obtained in the Counseling
Center.
1 Registration deadline for November 7th SAT/ SAT Subject Tests
4 Long Island National College Fair at Nassau Coliseum- 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
10 SAT/SAT Subject Tests - TEST OFFERED at Northport High School
TBA Western Suffolk Counselors’ Association Fall College Fair at
Suffolk County Community College - Selden Campus - 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 6:00 to 8:30
p.m.
15 Deadline for requesting an application for Congressional nomination to a Service Academy
by Congressman Steve Israel, Senator Charles Schumer and/or Senator Kirsten
Gillibrand. This request must be in writing.
24 ACT - Test NOT OFFERED at Northport High School
27 Mini-College Day - 10:20 a.m. to 12:00 noon - High School Commons
30 Registration Deadline for December 5th SAT/SAT Subject Tests.
Test NOT OFFERED at Northport High School.
All College Applications need to be submitted to the Counseling Center at least two (2)
weeks prior to the application deadline.
Check the Family Connection (under My Colleges) to see whether your green forms have
been returned.
Read the SCHOLARSHIP NEWSLETTER (periodic mailings throughout the course of
senior year), follow instructions. Be aware of deadlines.
Check Senior Bulletin Board and Family Connection for the latest information on college
open houses, scholarships and pertinent post-high school planning information.
Check “EARLY DECISION” college deadlines, if applicable.
Review college applications for teacher recommendation forms that require Yellow Form.
Continue working on your college essay(s).
NOVEMBER
