RE: Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Foundation 2010 Scholarship Award
Please find attached a copy of the 2010 Scholarship Application for the Martin Luther King, Jr.
Cultural Foundation, Inc. The scholarship is presented each year to deserving and qualified students
who attend Fairfax County Public Schools and the Northern Virginia Community College Pathway
Program.
Students are to complete all of the appropriate sections as they apply to them and have the
application postmarked no later than Friday February 26, 2010. Students will be contacted no later
than Friday March 26 as to the results of the selection of winners for 2010.
The requirements for both Fairfax County Public School students and the NVCC Pathway Program
are explained completely on the last 2 pages of the application. If there are questions are concerns,
please don not hesitate to contact me at rwscott@cox.net.
Last year the foundation presented ten awards and we look forward to the same number of winners
this year. We hold a scholarship luncheon each year and we will again host the luncheon on
Saturday April 24, 2010. All students selected as winners are expected to attend in that the luncheon
is held in their honor and the cost of the luncheon is paid for by the foundation. More important is
the fact that the recipients have the opportunity to meet the benefactors of their awards.
At this point with the economic downturn I cannot say the specific amount of the award but in past
years we have maintained an amount of $1000.00 which is mailed to the students financial aid
office in the early summer so the funds are available when the student arrives for the fall semester.
Please feel free to make as many copies as needed for your students. The application will be able to
be downloaded and printed from our website within the following two weeks. Until that time please
secure a copy from your Career Center Specialist at your schools.
We look forward to working with all of the students and thank you for assisting us in supporting the
students who applying for the award.
