BASIC CERTIFICATE IN YOUTH MINISTRY
Registration for Basic Certificate in Youth Ministry (BCYM) has begun! With all the
Summer Traveling and programs, don’t wait until the last minute to register. The
montly sessions begin Saturday September 19th, 2009.
Remember, as per Archdiocesan guidelines, ALL Youth Ministry
Leaders
must complete the program before or within his or her first year of
Ministry in this Archdiocese. We also encourage any adults who
assist in youth ministry to attend!

Confirmation Coordinator/Catechist Formation
Training Sessions are coming up, there’s still time to register! If you are a Confirmation
Coordinator or Confirmation Catechist, there is a great formation opportunity for you!
Confirmation Coordinator training includes components such as: *Involving Parents *
Recruiting and Preparing your team * Planning service opportunities * Developing
mystagogia experiences and post-Confirmation formation.
When: Tuesday August 25th
Location: St. Dominic Center Chancery
Cost: $15 if postmarked by Monday August 17th, 2009
$20 if postmarked after Monday August 17th, 2009
Confirmation Catechist Training includes: Developing a basic understanding of
sacramental catechesis * Developing skills to connect the Catholic Faith with teens *
Learning how to develop lessons while using USCCB texts and other media and activities
When: Saturday August 29th

NCYC 2009 – Kansas City
National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) 2009 is quickly
approaching. This year’s NCYC will be held in Kansas City, MO
Thursday November 19th – Sunday November 22nd, 2009.
This year’s NCYC is extra special because it is featuring a
joint keynote by our very own Cardinal DiNardo and Brian
Johnson.
We hope to have a large delegation from Galveston-Houston to support our
dynamic duo as they speak to over 22,000 high school youth from around the
country. Let’s show them what the young Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of
Galveston-Houston is really about.

Total Hotel and Registration Cost: $350 per youth
$ 460 per adult
Deposit Due Date: Wednesday September 2nd, 2009 (must be in the Office by this date)
Non-refundable Deposit Cost: $120 per participant
* The deposit is transferable to a person of the same gender *
Final Payment Due Date: Monday September 21st (must be in the Office by this date)
Final Registration Payment: $230 per youth
$ 340 per adult
* After September 21st, 2009 there is a substitution fee of $30 per person. NO substitutions
will be taken after Wednesday October 14th *
Travel Information: Air fare will be handled by each parish. This is the only
way we could keep the cost under $800 per participant.

ADORE WORSHIP SUMMIT: FOR MINISTRY LEADERS
Urbi et Orbi (for the city and the world). In the face of
cultural turmoil, economic crisis, and an ever-growing
need, as leaders, God calls us to find our strength in Him.
Please note that this event is for all leaders of any capacity
who are over 18 years of age…which means that this is not
an event to bring your teens to, but an opportunity for YOU to be spiritually fed
and grow in your faith. This is a great opportunity to pass on to your young
adults out of high school looking for a place to participate.

The Quest
It’s time for The Quest. This leadership program is designed for all Jr. High Youth
(grades 6, 7, and 8). This program introduces the young church into the Servant-
Leadership model in a three year cycle by providing them with the building blocks
needed for peer ministry.
Through Skits, Community Building Games, activities, workshops, and prayer, youth
will focus on a different leadership skill while discovering their own. Will you take your
young person on this journey?

Creating Sacred Space Retreat Formation
Just a friendly reminder that ALL retreat team members,
both adults and teens, must complete the Archdiocesan
Retreat Formation – Creating Sacred Spaces. We encourage
all of you to take care of this retreat formation before you
begin your retreat season.
If your parish is interested in hosting Retreat Formation, we
ask for a minimum of 20 participants as well as a $20 fee
per participant.

CYM Connect – Save the Date
It’s almost time!!!! With all the running around from the summer
how could you not miss our CYM Connects?! If you’re a newbie,
you’re probably wondering, “What is a CYM Connect?” It’s the
opportunity to gather with your fellow Youth Ministry Leaders
from around the Archdiocese. We will pray, socialize, and enjoy
an opportunity to see your peers without being surrounded by teens. This event is
100% free, so take the time to recharge some of your batteries.
Since we end at noon, you’re more than welcome to tag along as we take the
gathering to a local restaurant. Lunch is on your own, but we keep the prices pretty
low.

ARCHDIOCESAN CONFERENCE ON CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTRY
The Adult Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry (ACCYM) is back for another year of fun, learning,
spiritual growth, and the opportunity to be re-energized in your ministry. This is a Conference for
ALL Adults who minister to, with, and for Adolescents.
That means that, if you work with 6th-12th grade students, this event is for YOU! This year’s keynote
speakers are Mike Carotta, Lisa Epperson, and Mike Norman. Cardinal DiNardo will celebrate mass.
People from all over the country are coming to facilitate workshops for you.
With workshops that speak to personal, professional, and spiritual growth no matter
where you are on this journey, why would you want to miss out?! And WHY are you keeping this to
yourself?!
