The story has a concept of implying that in unity there is strength, but division brings
defeat. We express it through snapping a pair of chopsticks and a bundle of chopsticks.
One of the most important principles we use in the flash is transitions. I will mainly focus
on this principle to analysis our work.
Movement-to-movement transition is one of the critical transitions that we use in our
work. For example, when Piero walks into the apartment with a bag of rice and also
when Tony goes up to the Piero, we apply the movement-to-movement transition. We
extend the action of walk over more panels than strictly necessary to convey the action.
It encourages the viewers to take special note of the passage of time.
We use subject-to-subject transition in the middle of the story. When Piero and Tony
meet together and talk to each other, we direct the camera around the scene. We first
shoot the picture that includes two of them and then move the view and focus the
single person who is saying something. It highlights particular versions of the event and
focuses the viewers on the subject that we want to emphasize.
Also there are a lot of scene-to-scene transitions across our work. We use that type of
transition to connect one part of story to another part of the story. For example, when
Piero discovers the food on the table and decide to walk to the food, the story of part 1
ends and then another scene comes up that show Piero sits at the table with his
chopsticks and stares at the food. It helps to transfer the viewers’ eyes from the end of
one part of the story to beginning of another part of the story.
Last but not the least, we apply some action-to-action transitions to our work. In the
scene that I am waiting in front of the bank, we want to demonstrate that I have been
waiting for a long time and my emotion changes from anxious into angry. We use
action-to-action transition to take a panel that I am drinking coke first and then followed
by a panel that I pinch the aluminum can of coke too hard that makes the can
transfigured. It helps the viewer’s to understand the process that I become angry as
Jadeon doesn’t show up.
Also there are a lot of other principles such as animation and framing that we apply in
our work. For example, we zoom in and zoom out the picture to emphasize and focus on
specific subject.
