CPR Test Study Guide
Check, Call, and Care are the three basic steps to take in an emergency.
Know the signals of an emergency and how to prevent disease transmission
People fail to act in an emergency because of fear of doing something wrong, fear of disease,
and other people are present.
What do you do for a conscious person who is choking and coughing forcefully?
Encourage them to keep coughing
When a person cannot cough, speak, or breathe and the person is conscious then do five back
blows and five abdominal thrust.
One cycle of CPR consist of 30 compressions and 2 breaths.
5 cycles of CPR are performed in 2 minutes. However, once you have started CPR continue
until medical help arrives, the scene becomes unsafe, you are too tired to continue, or the person
begins breathing on their own.
Do not move a person in an emergency unless the scene becomes unsafe and the person may be
in danger or you need to give care.
You have to tilt the head back when breathing in to the manikin so that the airway is open.
Breathe in just enough air for the chest to gently rise and fall. The breath should take about 1
second.
Check for signs of breathing for 10 seconds.
If someone is in shock you need to raise their legs, talk to them, and keep them comfortable.
The best way to check and see if a person is conscious is to tap and shout “Are you okay?” If
no response call EMS/ 911.
