BASEBALL 2006-2007 SEASON
GO BLUE KNIGHTS!
As part of the Minnesota Community College Conference (MCCC) and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference
(ICCAC), Dakota County Technical College is proud to represent Minnesota with outstanding student athletes as one of the
few two-year college athletic programs in the Twin Cities.
Just four years ago, DCTC began building an athletic program as a way to open the doors of technical education to stu-
dent athletes who might not ordinarily attend DCTC. By offering intercollegiate athletics, student athletes are able to learn
valuable skills without abandoning their interest in athletics.
Today, even in its early stages, the athletics department has already seen great success. Recruiting classes continue to
grow, many of our athletes have been selected for a variety of awards both on and off the field, and our soccer and base-
ball teams have made playoff appearances. We are very proud of what has been accomplished so far, and we look forward
to what the future might bring.
If you are interested in learning more about DCTC, I encourage you to visit us in person at our main site in Rosemount or
on the Web at www.dctc.edu. In addition to our athletic programs, we offer more than 50 programs taught by some of the
most knowledgeable and experienced instructors around and serve more than 13,000 students a year in regular credit and
RONALD E. THOMAS, PH.D. customized training hour-based credit courses.
Dakota County Technical College On behalf of DCTC, I extend my thanks for the support our institution and its programming receives – go Blue Knights!

Tim Huber begins his third season as head baseball coach at DCTC. The program has made great strides under Huber’s guidance,
with the Blue Knights moving from the bottom to the top of the MCCC in a short time. In addition to excellent success as a team, six
of Coach Huber’s players have transferred on to play college baseball at four-year schools.
In spring 2005, Huber’s first season as head coach, the team qualified for the Minnesota Community College Conference State
Tournament for the first time in the program’s history. The 2005 season proved to be a big step in the right direction for DCTC, as the
Blue Knights finished off the season just one game shy of the .500 mark with a record of 19-20-1. This was a drastic improvement
compared with the 2004 squad, which finished with a 5-30 record.
Despite losing five of the top seven pitchers during the year, the 2006 season brought the Blue Knights an overall record of 23-17 and
a .360 batting average that ranked them fifth in the nation. DCTC once again qualified for the MCCC State Tournament in the 2006 sea-
son, earning a fourth place finish that qualified the Blue Knights for the Regional Tournament for the first time in DCTC history.
Prior to DCTC, Coach Huber was an assistant coach at Southwest Minnesota State University in the 2003 and 2004 seasons and an
TIM HUBER assistant coach at Macalester College in 2002. At SMSU, Huber worked as the team's hitting instructor, where he helped guide the
SMSU hitters. They led the conference in batting average, doubles, total bases and RBI in 2003. The .330 team batting average in 2003
Head Baseball Coach ranked second in school history, but only temporarily, as Huber guided the 2004 team to a .334 team finish.
Coach Huber also spent the past two summers as head coach of the West St Paul Legion team. In just two years, the team has a com-
bined overall record of 60-23 and finished the regular season ranked first in the state in 2005 (32-10) and third in 2006 (28-13). Huber
also coached the Marshall American Legion team in the summer of 2004 and led them to a State Tournament appearance.
Huber’s playing days were spent at Mankato State University, where he still ranks near the top of several hitting categories. He grad-
uated from MSU in 2001 with a degree in Sports Management and a minor in Coaching. He obtained his Masters in Education with
an emphasis in Physical Education from SMSU in 2004. Huber resides in Hastings with his wife, LeAnn.
Jake Swartout is in his second year with the DCTC Blue Knights. Swartout has coached several teams in the past, ranging form
Babe Ruth to American Legion, and led his 2002 Hopkins American Legion team to the State Tournament.
Swartout played college baseball at Southwest State University, where he was a four-year letter winner and earned All-
Conference honors his senior season.
He graduated from SSU in 2002 with a degree in Corrections, along with a Coaching minor.
Swartout resides in Hastings with his wife, Jenny.
Assistant Baseball Coach
Garrett begins his second season with the Blue Knights. He played college baseball at Mankato State University and the
GARRETT RETKA University of Minnesota. He also played professional ball with the Duluth Dukes of the Northern League. Garrett also current-
ly coaches with the Henry Sibley High School team.
Volunteer Assistant Baseball
Coach Garrett resides in Hastings with his wife Sara.
Colin Brackeen begins his first season assisting the Blue Knights baseball program. He attended St. Olaf College, where he
earned All-American Honors and led the nation in strike outs per nine innings in
COLIN BRACKEEN 1997, averaging over 14 per game. He was drafted in 1997 during the 15th round by the Toronto Blue Jays, playing three years
Volunteer Assistant Baseball in the organization, with an additional two years of professional experience in the Northern League.
Brackeen hopes his five years of professional baseball experience will instill a competitive edge and winning tradition in the
DCTC pitching staff during the 2007 season.
Randy Briesacher begins his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Blue Knights baseball program.
DR. RANDY Briesacher spent his rookie playing days with the Arizona Padres in 1984 and the NWCC baseball team from 1996-1998. In 2000,
BRIESACHER he founded the Minnesota Starz. He has coached for the ACE baseball program and the Stockman's Irish Amateur Team, and
currently coaches for the Minnesota Starz and is an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves.
Volunteer Assistant Baseball
Coach He and his wife Leslie have three children – Ben, Megan, and Madison.
