TIME TOPIC SPEAKER

7:45-8:15am On-site Registration and Check-in

8:15-8:30am Welcome! Carmen Bott, BC Provincial Director

8:30-10:00am Before the Training Session: Are They Fit to Train? Behnad Honarbakhsh, MPT, CSCS

This lecture will build a discussion around the following topics: current client/athlete intake procedure: “The

Standard Operating Procedure”; importance of individualized screening and evaluation; definitions of

screens, tests and assessments: “How Do They Differ”; “Muscles or Patterns”; seeking a fitness solution to a medical

problem; the Movement Par-Q: the Functional Movement Screen; as well as what we do after we have uncovered

red flags: from evaluation to correction.

10:15-11:45am Movement Variability - What Is In It For Us? Guido Van Ryssegem, MS, CSCS

Variability in movement is a natural and normal phenomenon that influences our lives, our physical

accomplishments and our musculoskeletal and mental health. As exercise is prescribed as an intervention, we

need to understand how much or how little variability of movement should be recommended so our audiences’

goals can be met. This presentation will review the literature on movement variability and how this variability

impacts different populations. Exercise recommendations will be brought forward for these populations.

11:45-12:45pm Lunch (provided)

12:45-2:30pm Explosive Rotational Training Jason Glass, CSCS

Focus on how Explosive Rotational Power (ERP) training increases the ability to create efficient power in all

athletes. Covered will be the 3 sources of power; discuss how to assess these attributes in your athlete and most

importantly how to create more power using the science of rotational power training. The concepts and tech-

niques taught in this presentation are designed for the participants to be able to leave with a clear and concise

understanding of how to create a more powerful athlete utilizing the strengths that their athletes already posses.

2:30-4:00pm Program Design Considerations Joe McCullum

Subjects discussed will include: taking program design a little further than finding exercise tips off of YouTube;

understanding and differentiating between personal training clients, active rehab and athlete training; moving

from using only past assessments and goals as your tools and considerations for program design for all

populations; as well as creating a balanced approach and using critical thinking before considering exercise or

movement selections.
