DrumlineIntroduction
The Park Crest Drumline is a great way to learn new skills and make new friends. It
began only three years ago, with a small but talented group of seven students who’s
charisma and passion still inspires the Drumline today. The Drumline not only performs
at school programs, but at many events in the community throughout the year as well.
The Park Crest Drumline is a lot of fun to be a part of, and a truly unforgettable
experience. Even though it requires much practice time and can be very challenging, it is
also very rewarding!!!!
The PCMS Drumline has one of the most unique styles in PISD. Here, we blend styles not
only from DCI and other Show Style college drumlines, but are also heavily influenced
by drum patterns that will that will make you “bob your head”. We like to groove!!! All
of this combines into one of the most entertaining middle school Drumlines to see and
hear.
The Drumline has been invited to perform at PISD Convocation 2009; PCMS pep rallies,
PISD elementary schools, Pflugerville’s D-Fest, Relay-4-Life, football games,
tournaments, basketball games and many other events. The Drumline also performed
during the half time of the Austin Toros basketball game February 26, 2009. More
recently, the Park Crest MS Drumline participated in their very first Drumline
Competition in Houston, TX on March 6, 2010. After months of hard work and
dedication, the P.C.M.S. Drumline was awarded 1st place!!! The students are ecstatic
about their win, and are already preparing to take the Drumline to an even higher level
of playing.
Objectives
To develop the technical skills necessary to play a musical instrument, and to
develop the skills necessary to read music.
To build leadership and character. The Park Crest Drumline members strive to be
known by outstanding character, citizenship, and discipline. We will work to ensure
proper conduct, consideration, responsibility, and courtesy as a vital part of the
participation of students, both at Park Crest, and in all public situations.
To promote the success of the entire Drumline program as well as the individual
student. The Drumline is fun!!! However, there is no fun in mediocrity. Each
member must be willing to sacrifice individual desires for the good of the overall
program. Team Player!!!
To promote and encourage each and every student to work together toward specific
goals and objectives. Students will learn both leadership and the willingness to
follow.

Academics: Performances & DrumlineTrips
All Drumline Members are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism in the
classroom, and when traveling outside of PCMS.
During the course of the year, Drumline students might participate in several
performances and trip activities. These trips are designed to be a reward for students
that participate well, behave well, and earn passing grades in all of their academic and
co-curricular classes. Students and parents should understand that grades below 70
would prevent a Drumline member from participating.
All Texas state ‘no-pass, no-play’ rules (http://www.tea.state.tx.us/field/faqxc.html) will
be followed as well as other appropriate local policy.
Attendance
PCMS 2010-2011 Drumline Camp - Attendance is Mandatory
During the year the Drumline preparation time is very limited due to other
extracurricular activities, and the fact that we do not meet on a daily basis. Therefore, I
would like to take full advantage of the summer to prepare for the performances that
occur during the beginning of the school year. Thank you for your support and more
information will be provided at a later date. Please feel free to contact me with any
questions or concerns.
Excused Absences
~Students with (2) excused absences from any rehearsal within a two week time
period will not perform at the next scheduled performance
~For an absence to be excused, the student must provide Mr. Bailey with an
acceptable note from parent or teacher.
Unexcused Absences
~A student with one unexcused absence from any rehearsal in one week will not
perform at the next scheduled performance.
*Show up On-Time-Tardies
~If you are not in your warm-up position or assigned position by the time attendance
is taken, you are considered tardy.
~Two tardies equal one absence.
~Parent/teacher notes for tardies follow the same rules for absences
Discipline
One of the most important elements in any worthwhile endeavor is discipline. A
successful Drumline student must possess a certain degree of self discipline. This
element is essential to a fine Drumline program and is a must for every individual.
Examples of personal discipline include: personal practice, high behavior standards,
positive attitude, respect towards the Drumline directors, respect towards other
Drumline students, respect towards individuals or school property, effort, and loyalty to
the group.
Drumline members are expected to maintain high standards of behavior while
representing the Drumline and Park Crest Middle School in public whether in
performance, on buses, in uniform, or anywhere on the PCMS campus. Improper
conduct by Drumline students will not be tolerated.
Students that are suspended from school or serve an ISS will not be allowed to
participate during the next scheduled Drumline Performance. All Texas state ‘no-pass,
no-play’ rules (http://www.tea.state.tx.us/field/faqxc.html) will be followed as well as
other appropriate local policy.
PracticeSchedule
The Drumline does not meet on a daily basis; therefore our practice time is very limited.
It is my intent to make sure that we are efficient with every practice, and I want to take
advantage of the time that is available.
* Currently the Drumline practices every Wednesday & Friday from 3:45-5:45pm.
* Wednesday mornings from 7:00am-8:00am are reserved for quad & snare sectionals.
* When preparing for competition and big performances, the Drumline also practice
on Sunday afternoons from 3:00pm-6:00pm, and on some district Student Holidays.
The practice schedule for 2010-2011 Drumline will not be confirmed until the PCMS
Campus Calendar has been set in August 2010. Most likely the Drumline schedule will
resemble the schedule above. (Two days a week with afterschool, and one morning
sectionals)
Performance Schedule
The Drumline not only performs at school programs, but at many events in the
community throughout the year. With the exception of pep rallies, band concerts, and
other school activities, the Drumline performances are based on invitations form
community organizations. Most invitations come from individuals that hear about the
success of the Drumline throughout the year, in which some occasions there isn’t much
notice to prepare. Attached is a schedule of the Drumline performance from 2009-2010,
and the performances that are bolded will most likely occur during the 2010-2011
Drumline year!!!
Communication
Communication is key to the success of the Drumline; therefore it is imperative that the
students, parents, and Drumline instructor are in constant communication. E-mails, text,
weekly memos, parent letters/ itineraries, and the band hall chalkboard are all methods
used to inform parents & students on Drumline updates!!!
FundRaiser
Every year the PCMS Drumline undertakes at least one fund raiser. The money raised by
our students is not only used to fund trips, but also to help fund the operating expenses
for the Drumline. If district funding falls short, these monies might be used to cover
expenses for other items including music, instrument repairs, new instruments,
recording equipment, supplies, etc. Students are NOT required to participate in fund
raising activities, but are encouraged to do so for the benefits that everyone will receive.
