2 Personal protective equipment, appropriate for the work being carried out, is to be
selected and worn in accordance with company requirements, manufacturer’s
recommendations, and job requirements.
3 Company procedures refer to documented procedures a company has in place such
as procedures for safety, the operation and maintenance of equipment, and quality
assurance.
4 Weeds means undesirable plants on a crop or pasture and includes brush weeds
such as gorse.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Identify and describe weeds in crops and pasture.
Performance criteria
1.1 Weeds present in local crops and pasture are identified in terms of species.
Range at least ten weeds common to crops and pasture.
1.2 Weeds present in local crops and pasture are described in terms of why and
how they are removed.
Element 2
Select agrichemicals to control weeds in crops and pasture.
Performance criteria
2.1 Agrichemicals chosen are appropriate to control the identified weeds.
2.2 Selection takes account of key factors in weed control.
Range key factors – weed growth stages, crop and pasture growth
stages, label directions, formulations, poison schedule rating,
compatibility, solubility, toxicity, volatility, selectivity, target
resistance, withholding period to harvest, destination market
requirements, and persistence in the environment.
2.3 Agrichemicals are chosen which minimise the risk to people, susceptible crops,
animals, and the environment.
2.4 Agrichemicals chosen meet local and regional authority regulations.

authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
