OTC-Bound?
If you are planning to attend OTC this fall and have not yet applied, go to www.otc.edu and click on “Apply
Online.” The application is free. Once you receive your acceptance letter from OTC, double check that you are
completing the required tasks on the checklist you receive in the mail:
Complete online orientation
Complete the FAFSA
Have your high school transcript sent to them (if you’ve taken dual credit, you will have to send your
SBU/MSU transcript as well
Arrange to take the placement exam (if you don’t have an ACT score to send)
Schedule an advising appointment
COLLEGE REPS VISITING BHS
We have a few more college reps who will be in our building this month. Please do not pick up a green pass
from Kim Stanek to attend unless you are still undecided about where to attend college or where to apply. If
you have been accepted to colleges, you do not need to attend.

GOT MILK SCHOLARSHIP
America’s Milk Processors and USA Today offer the SAMMY 2011 Award Program which recognizes
outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 from high schools throughout the US. Twenty-five winners will
receive a $7500 college scholarship, receive an invitation to attend an awards weekend at Walt Disney World in
Florida in June, and have the opportunity to be pictured in a special congratulatory Milk Mustache ad in the
June 2011 edition of USA Today and other national publications. Applications are available online at
www.bodybymilk.com. Deadline to apply is March 4.
SCHOOLEY AND ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIPS
Bolivar High School seniors who are planning for any type of post-secondary education (technical, vocational,
2-year, or 4-year college) may apply for the Schooley or Robinson scholarship. There is one application to
apply for both scholarships. If you are chosen for one, you will not receive the other. The scholarship money
for the Schooley and Robinson come from two different trusts, so amounts may vary with each scholarship.
Please do not apply if you are unsure as to whether you or not you will attend college. Students who
apply need to be certain that they will be attending some type of college in the fall. At this time, the
scholarship is awarded in the amount of approximately $400/year, but the amount of the scholarship changes
from year to year. Students who receive this scholarship may be able to renew it in future years, depending on
funds available. Applications must be returned to Mrs. Darby no later than 3:00 p.m. on March 10, 2011.
Late applications are not accepted for any reason. Recipients are announced at the Senior Awards Assembly in
May.
MITCHELL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is approximately $300-$600 per year and is renewable. To be eligible, an applicant must be a
BHS graduate, must be attending a college or university in the state of Missouri, and must show evidence of
financial need. Applications are available from Mrs. Darby and must be returned to the address given on the
application no later than March 10.
MFA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
High school seniors can apply for this scholarship of $2000 to be applied toward the freshman year of college.
The selection committee will consider: 1. The applicant’s interest in furthering his/her education in studies
related to agriculture or other fields of study that benefit rural life. 2. The applicant’s participation and
leadership in school, church, and community activities 3. The applicant’s reputation for good citizenship and
good moral character 4. The applicant’s financial need, sources of income, and willingness to work and the
applicant’s satisfactory academic progress. The deadline on the application says March 15; however, this is the
date that the school must have them returned to MFA. The deadline for students to turn in applications to Mrs.
Darby is actually March 10 by 3:00 p.m. If you turn in your application after March 10, you will have missed
the school’s internal deadline to apply for this scholarship.
DIANE CHRISTODOULOU MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Any high school senior who has an IEP with a learning disability is invited to apply for this $500 scholarship.
Applications are available in the Counseling Center. Deadline to submit all application materials to the address
on the application is March 11.
NATIONAL FARMERS FARM KIDS FOR COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
Students interested in attending an accredited college or university to study for a career in agriculture may
apply. Application includes typing answers to essay questions, two letters of reference, and a recent photo.
Applications are available from the Counseling Center. Applications must be sent in to Eunice Fisher (address
given on application) are available online at http://www.nfo.org/Scholarships/Apps/2011_Farm_Kids_App.pdf
and are due by by March 14.
MU-COLUMBIA MEN OF ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
The Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity will be awarding two $500 Men of Achievement Scholarships in May 2011 to
any non-Greek male who is attending MU in the fall. Applications will be considered based upon, but not
limited to, academic success, ACT score, school involvement, community activities, and leadership roles.
Applicants should have at least a 3.0 GPA. Applications are available in the Counseling Center and should be
returned to the address on the application. Deadline to apply is March 15, 2011.
BOLIVAR KIWANIS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
A $600 scholarship from the Bolivar Kiwanis Club is available for seniors planning to attend a postsecondary
institution. While any senior may apply, priority is given to students who demonstrate financial need,
demonstrate obvious benefit, involved in community service, and who have Kiwanis affiliation. Applications
are available in the Counseling Center and once completed, should be mailed to the address on the application.
Deadline to submit an application is March 15.
CECIL AND FAYE WOLLARD AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP
An award of approximately $500-$1000 will be awarded to a BHS student who is planning to major in
Agriculture in college. Applicants must be graduates of Bolivar High School and have been in VoAg classes
and FFA a minimum of two years. Applications are available in the Counseling Center. Deadline postmark:
March 17 to Kerry Douglas’ office (address on application.)
MISSOURI BANKERS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
The Missouri Bankers Foundation is offering $500 Willis W. Alexander scholarships available to seniors
planning to enroll in a full-time course of study leading to a degree with a major in a banking-related field and
who have exhibited academic achievement and/or economic need. Requirements for this scholarship include:
1)Complete application in ink or typed 2) include an official transcript, a resume of extracurricular activities,
and 2 letters of recommendation 3)must be signed by the applicant and by an officer of a member bank of the

Missouri Banker’s Association, and 4)applications must be postmarked by March 18. Applications are

J.B. ZUMWALT FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
The J.B. Zumwalt Family Scholarship Fund comes from a fund established by the children of J.B. and Vera
Zumwalt to be used for a $500 scholarship by a student graduating from Bolivar High School who is attending
any accredited 4-year college or university. The applicant must have attended Bolivar High for a minimum of
two years, be in the top 25% of the graduating class, and must plan to attend a four-year college. Applications
are available in the Counseling Center. Deadline: March 18 to Mrs. Darby’s office.
BROOKS FAMILY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship comes from a fund established by the Brooks family to be used for scholarships by students
graduating from Bolivar High and who are planning to attend a 2- or 4-year college. Applicant must have
attended BHS at least two years and be in the top 50% of your graduating class. Preference is given to students
going into a vocational technical or trade area. The number of scholarships and amounts available vary from
year to year, but generally range between $500-$1000 each. Applications are available in the guidance center.
Deadline to return the application to Mrs. Darby: March 18.
POLK COUNTY D.A.R.E. SCHOLARSHIP
The Community Foundation of the Ozarks will sponsor a $500 D.A.R.E. Scholarship to a graduating, college-
bound senior. Applicants must have refrained from all use of illegal drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products.
Applicants should have participated in DARE classes during your school years. To apply, you must submit an
application, essay relating your commitment to live a drug, alcohol, and tobacco-free life, along with a
recommendation from a principal and one teacher. Applications are available in the holder outside of Mrs.
Darby’s door in the Counseling Center. Deadline to return applications to Mrs. Darby’s office is March 30 by
3 p.m.
COACH CHARLES MCCALLISTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
If you are planning to play football at a 4-year college this fall, have at least a 2.8 GPA, and been on an All
Conference listing, please see Mrs. Darby for a scholarship application. Deadline to apply is March 30.
BOLIVAR HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1966 SCHOLARSHIP
The Class of 1966 Scholarship Fund comes from a fund established by the class members of the BHS Class of
1966. This is to be used for a scholarship by a student graduating from Bolivar High School who is attending
any accredited 4-year college or university. The amount of the scholarship may vary between $200-$750. This
is a one year non-renewable scholarship. To be eligible, applicant must have attended BHS all four years and
be in the top 25% of your graduating class. Applications are available in the Counseling Center. Deadline to
apply is March 30 before 3:00 p.m.
BUTLER SCHOLARSHIP (OTC SCHOLARSHIP)
The Butler Scholarship, in the amount of $500, will be awarded to one graduating senior from Bolivar High
School that will be attending OTC in Springfield for the fall of 2011. This scholarship comes from a fund
created by a gift from Ralph Butler, in memory of his deceased wife, Glendena Butler, a former Bolivar reading
teacher at the elementary school. Applications are available from Mrs. Darby. Deadline: March 30 to Mrs.
Darby’s office.

MORGAN SCHOLARSHIP
One $550 scholarship is available to a BHS student who plans to pursue a college degree in teaching, training to
become a registered nurse, or who plans to obtain a bachelor’s or graduate degree in nursing. Preference may
be given to students pursuing a special education or elementary education degree. Academic achievement and
financial need may also be taken into consideration. To apply, please type a 2-3 page essay stating what your
educational plans are, what your career goals are, and why you feel you should receive this scholarship. Turn
essays into Mrs. Darby by Friday, March 30 before 3:00 p.m.
MISSOURI INSURANCE EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
Four $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to Missouri graduating high school seniors who will be full-time
students in an accredited Missouri college or university and with an interest or intent of pursuing an insurance,
risk management, or actuarial science course of study. Applications may be picked in the Counseling Center.
Completed applications must be postmarked no later than March 31 to the address on the application.
U.S. BANK INTERNET SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
U.S. Bank will award up to thirty $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend accredited two-
or four-year colleges full-time next fall. Winners are selected by a random drawing process, with no other
requirements needed to qualify. Apply online at http://www.usbank.com/cgi_w/cfm/studentloans/marketing.cfm
You may apply anytime between now and March 31.
BUICK ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP
Seniors who plan to enroll full-time at a 4-year college or university and will major in one of the following
areas are invited to apply for this scholarship: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Business
Administration, Finance, Marketing, or Design. Applicants should be interested in a career after college in the
automotive or related industries. More information about scholarships valued up to $25,000 per year are
available at www.buickachievers.com. Deadline to apply is March 31.
VESTAL EQUIPMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Vestal Equipment is offering a $500 scholarship to a senior interested in attending college who will be pursuing
a career in Agriculture or in a related field. Applications are available in the Counseling Center and should be
mailed to the address on the application by April 1, 2011.
ROBERT C. BYRD HONORS SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship provides outstanding scholars with awards of up to $1,500 a year for their first four years of
study at a four-year institution of higher education. This award is based solely on academic achievement and
promise of continued academic success. Applicants must rank in the top 10% of the senior class and score in
the top 10% of the national percentile on the ACT test (above a 30 on the ACT). To apply, you must file a
statement of registration status certifying that you are registered with the selective service or that, for a specific
reason, you are not required to be registered. Applications are available at
www.dese.mo.gov/divteachqual/scholarships. Postmark deadline: April 15.
MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded to BHS seniors who plan to attend MSU next fall. The scholarship is
renewable if the recipient completes 30 credit hours each year and maintains a 3.25 GPA, or better. To be
considered for this scholarship, confirm with Mrs. Darby NO LATER THAN APRIL 15th, that you definitely
plan to enroll at MSU next fall.

BHS MUSIC BOOSTERS SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships will be awarded to two graduating seniors for college tuition, tuition expenses, class fees and
books. The scholarship will be awarded to one student from each department (band and choir). The selection
of the recipients will be based upon financial need, academic excellence, minimum of 4 semesters in band or
choir, and a commitment to pursue a major or minor or participate in a college performing ensemble.
Applications may be obtained from the high school band director or music teacher. Applications must be
returned to back to Mr. McClard or Mr. Scott by April 15th.
CHRISTIAN CONNECTOR, INC. SCHOLARSHIP
This website provides free Christian college information as well as allows you to enter in a $2500 scholarship

AMERICAN LEGION DEPARTMENT OF MO SCHOLARSHIP*
Scholarship awards are available for descendants of a veteran who had at least ninety days active service in the
U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard, who received an Honorable Discharge for such service.

Lillie Lois Ford Scholarship*
Two awards of $1000 each are given to one boy and one girl who have attended Boys/Girls State, or the Cadet
Patrol Academy. April 20 deadline.
Joseph J. Frank Scholarship*
Five awards of $500 given to individuals who are members of, or descendants of members of the American
Legion. Must have attended Boys’ or Girls’ State. April 20 deadline.
M.D. “Jack” Murphy Memorial Nurses Training Fund*
One $750 award is given to a Missouri boy or girl training to be a Registered Nurse. The student must have
graduated in the top forty percent of their senior class. April 20 deadline.
Charles L. Bacon Memorial Scholarship*
Two awards of $500 will be given to a current member of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary,
or the Sons of The American Legion, or a descendant of a member of any thereof. April 20 deadline.
Erman W. Taylor Memorial Scholarship*
Two $500 awards will be given. To be eligible, individuals must: 1. Be a descendant of a veteran who served
90 or more days of active duty in the armed forces with an honorable discharge; 2. Provide a copy of the
discharge certificate for the veteran on whose the application is made; 3. Submit an essay of 500 words or less
on the subject “In your opinion, what was the most significant world event of 2005?” April 20 deadline.
Shane Dean Voyles Memorial Scholarship*
One $500 award will be given to a descendant of a veteran who served 90 or more days of active duty in the
armed forces and having an honorable discharge, plans to attend an accredited college or university full time,
must be able to provide a copy of the discharge certificate for the veteran on whose the application is made.

ALPHA GAMMA SIGMA SCHOLARSHIP (FOR MALES GOING TO MU)
Male high school seniors planning to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia are invited to apply for this
$500 scholarship. There are no other requirements other than being male and going to MU! Applications are
available in the Counseling Center and must be submitted to the address on the application by May 1.
AIR FORCE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Air Force ROTC offers scholarships at over 1000 different colleges and universities across the United

MAKING IT COUNT “WINNING CHARACTERISTICS” SCHOLARSHIP
