              All players honored on this year's Big 5 Conference Football Team --.. both
   offense and defense -- will be honored at the First Interstate Bank Athletic Founda-
   tion 46th annual Football Awards Program to be held at the First Interstate Bank,
   707 WilShire Blvd. in downtown Los Angeles.
              P1~ers, their coaChes, members of the selection board and collegiate
   players and coaches will be invited to attend the presentation ceremonies where
   beautiful framed scrolls will be awarded to both players and championship coaches.
              P1ayers'of the Year, including Servite quarterback Steve Beuerlein, will
   receive the Foundation's traditional bronze medallion award. The 1982 Big 5 All-Star

        AWARDS PROORAM CEREMONIES SET FOR FIRST TEAM DIV. II PLAYERS ON JANUARY 29TH
        Members of the Division II first team, both offense and defense, will be honored
  at the 46th annual All-Southern California Board of Football Awards Program to be held
  in the First Interstate Bank· Building on Saturday morning, Ja:n. 29 at 10:30 a.m.
        Players, their coaChes, high sChool administrators and collegiate coaChes and
  p1~ers  will receive invitations to the annual ceremonies, with Championship prep
  coaches also be honored. Players of the Year in the various divisions" including Mike
  Smith, will be recipients of the Athletic Foundation's traditional bronze medallion
  award. Presentation ceremonies will be followed by a luncheon in the bank headquarters.

                In Coastal Conference action, West Torrance won its first Southern Section
  football title, 35-21, over Santa Monica's Vikings capping a perfect 14-0 seas~n. West
  beat Santa Monica for the Bay League crown, administering the Vikings only two losses during
  1982. \-lest defeated San Marcos (48-10), Muir (24.;.0) and Oxnard "(17-8) before the title
  decider.
                Verbum Dei took the Northwestern Conference crown 7-0 over Monrovia and made
  it a perfect 13-0 season in"the··doiilg. It was the Eagles second straight crr title., as
  they took the Desert Mountain Conference crown last year. It was the 25th consecutive vic-
  tory for Verbum. Det, 13 of which have been shutouts, six this year. Verbum Dei defeated
  Beverly Hills (27-7), Righetti (3,-14) and St. Bernard (28-0) prior to beating MOnrovia.

  TO mE ANNUAL ALL-STAR SQUADS, 'tWO TEAMS BEING NAMED ON OFFENSE AND DEFENSE.

                                  Harris became the No. 3 all-time rusher in the CIF Southern Section during
  1982 as he rushed for 2,425 yards over a 9-3-2 season. He had 138 yards in the title game
  on 20 carries, having lugged the leather ,234 times over 14 games. He now finds himself be-
  hind Centennial's Mick~ Cureton and Craig Johnson of Whittier Christian on the single-season
  list. Earl:..Bentancourt~ a second team pick on last year's Div. III team, sparkl~d on defense
  over three seasons for coach John Dunaway. Earl had nine interceptions (two returned for
  touchdowns) during the season which saw the Panthers go 11-2-1.

               All First-Team Division 'III players will be invited to attend the 46th annual
         All-Southern california Board of Football Awards Program to be held at First In-
         terstate Bank, 707 Wilshire Blvd. in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday morning, Jan-
         uary 29th at 10:30 a.m.
               Players, their coaches, high school administrators and collegiate coaches and
         other gridiron notables will be invited to attend the annual celebration. Beauti-
         ful framed scrolls will be awarded all first-team honorees, with title-winning
         coaches also being honored. Pl~ers of the Year will receive the Athletic Founda-
        .tion' s traditional bronz~ medallions.

                   There was another tie for conference Championship laurels 'in the Eastern
  COnference, ~ Ramona, Ivy Leagtte representative and Damien, the Baseline Lea@e"s No. 1
  tied 28-28. Ramona, coached" by" "Crest' St"etkevich~ -'cOncluded lts s'eason 10-3-1 while Damien,
  under the coaching reins of Dick Larson, finished 11-2-1.                                 '
                    In central Conference play the EI Toro Chargers, under coach Bob Johnson's
  wing, defeated the previously unbeaten Fullerton Indians 35-19. E1 Toro, the Seaview
  League's No. 1 team, defeated Bellflower (28-0), Sunrw Hills (25-8) and La Habra (28-14)
  before the final engagement with Fullerton. El Toro was 12-2 for the season, while Fuller-
  ton finished 13-1.

        . "fembers of the 1982 ,All-Los Angeles City Football First Team, together with :'their
    coaches, will be honored at the 46th annual A1l-5outhern california Board of Football
    Awards ceremonies to'be held on Saturday morning, Jan. 29tlf" at 10:30 am. The pre~enta­
    tion of awards, with school administrators, board memberS and collegi~te coaches ·and
    players taking part, will be held at First Interstate Bank, 707 Wilshire Blvd., on the
    6th floor in the cafeteria.                        :
          Beautiful framed scrolls will be awarded all firs.t team m~mbers and title-winning
   'coaches, with traditional bronze ~edallions going to all players of the year.

                 Al Washington led the carson Colts to their first city title in 10 years. Coming
  from a 19-7 deficit in the first half, coach Gene Vollnogle t s ace quarterback p1t on a winning
  aerial perf'onnance with 12 of 15 completions for 203 yards and two touchdowns, His season-
. ending numbers are 93 of' 173 attempts for 1, 719 yards 'and 23 touchdowns. The Colts finished
  11-1, losing only to Banning for the Pacific League title.
                 Like carson,3-A Division champion Dorsey finished the season 11-1. COaCh Glenn
  Bell, whose D9n's won their last eight games, had his ace tight- -end-linebacker Larry Md3-1othen
  named division J.Vl.VP. "The best I've seen," says Bellon Md3-lothen's offensive ability and "def-
  initely a force on defense" (as a linebacker).
               . Marshall won its first mjor sport title in its 52-year history, 14-13 over de-
  fending 2-A champion Garfield. Marshall's Barristers turned in one of the City's greatest
  turnarounds in history coming from 0-8-1 in 1981 to 8~ and a title in 1982. Garfield tail-
  back Marcel Williams and Poly (9-0 before 1st round playoff loss to Huntington Park, 15-14)
  lineman' Alain Greer shared MVP honors in the 2-A Division.
