Dear Parents and Guardians,
Although it seems that we are just saying goodbye to summer it is never too early to think about
snow! This year the Ski and Snowboard season promises to be full of fun and a little hard work. I
would like to take a few moments to introduce the IRHS coaching staff for the 2010-2011 season.
Karen Normet is currently the Program Leader for Special Education at IRHS. Mrs. Normet is a
member of Craigleith ski club and raced competitively for 5 years. She has her level 2 instructor
and level 1 coaching certificates and ran the Children’s program at Craigleith for 13 years. Mrs.
Normet is the Halton Coordinator for Alpine Skiing and has been involved with organizing OFSAA
Alpine Skiing for the past 8 years. She is looking forward to working with our IRHS athletes this
season.
Michelle McCutcheon is a Science Teacher at IRHS. She began skiing as soon as she could walk
and has been flying down the slopes ever since. Ms. McCutcheon raced with her high school team
and enjoys trips to Panorama, Sunshine and Lake Louise. When time does not permit her to travel
so far you can find Ms. McCutcheon at Blue Mountain. She has coached the White Oaks Ski and
Snowboard team and worked with our IRHS athletes for the past two years. She is excited about
our dry land training schedule and a successful year for the IRHS students.
Nicole Klokoff is an English Teacher at IRHS. She began her skiing career when she was a
teenager and loves to spend time at Mount Tremblant whenever she can. Closer to home Ms.
Klokoff enjoys skiing at Mt. St. Louis/Moonstone with family and friends. She has organized a
variety of school Ski and Snowboard trips and is eagerly looking forward to training and working
with the IRHS teams.
Our dry land training will begin next week with Mountain Biking, continue into October and
November with circuit training and then move to the slopes as soon as the snow falls. There will be
a ½ day race at Glen Eden on January 11, 2011 for skiers and on January 12, 2011 for
snowboarders. The OFSAA Qualifying Race will once again be held at Craigleith Ski Club on
February 17, 2011. The next stop will be Alpine Skiing OFSAA at the end of February and
Snowboarding OFSAA at the beginning of March.
In addition, our athletes will be participating in 4 training sessions with Ski and Snowboard coaches
from Milton Heights at Glen Eden. We will also be organizing a 5 day trip to Smugglers’ Notch
after exams in January.
As you can see we have a very busy but exciting year planned and we look forward to support and
encouragement from all of our athletes and parents. If you would like to volunteer to assist in any
of our initiatives or events please do not hesitate to contact one of the coaches; your help would be
greatly appreciated.
