Life and career
Shaun Donovan Born in New York, Donovan earned undergraduate and
graduate degrees from Harvard University, graduating
from Harvard College in 1987, and earning a Master of
Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School
of Government and a Master of Architecture from the
Graduate School of Design in 1995.[5][6]
During the Clinton administration and the transition
to the Bush administration, Donovan was Deputy Assis-
tant Secretary for Multifamily Housing at HUD, and was
acting FHA commissioner. He became Commissioner of
the New York City Department of Housing Preservation
and Development in 2004.[6][7]
While Secretary, Donovan oversaw the allocation of
75% of HUD’s share of the American Recovery and Rein-
vestment Act within one week of the bill’s passage.[8]
During the 2008 United States Presidential campaign,
Donovan worked for the Obama campaign.[1]
For President Obama’s State of the Union addresses in
15th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban 2010, Donovan served as designated survivor.
