Dear Celebrity Officer Candidate:
Thank you for trying out for Celebrity Spirit Officer. You have my respect and support. If
selected, you will have the honor of representing this outstanding team.
I’m sure you’ve thought this over very carefully and realize what all it entails should you become
an officer. Just in case you’ve overlooked some details, I’d like to mention/stress a few very
important points.
1. All of you may not make officer. I fully expect that, should you be one that does not,
YOU WILL HANDLE THE SITUATION IN AN ADULT MANNER. DO NOT SULK
OR SPEAK BADLY ABOUT SOMEONE WHO MADE IT. BE GRACIOUS AND
ABOVE ALL, DO NOT QUIT.
2. If you do make officer, you may not receive the placement you desire. The decision will
be based on what is best for the team, and sometimes that decision does not agree with
personal preference. Proper behavior and attitude is necessary.
3. Becoming a spirit officer requires sacrifices. Time, effort, feelings, illness, friends,
family, social life, are all compromised. If you cannot remain dedicated throughout the
year (the good and bad times), DO NOT TRYOUT! (I really mean this!!!!)
4. I will not tolerate, ever, a temper tantrum, back-talking, back-stabbing, poor behavior or
any similar attitude from an officer. You are observed and copied by team members and
others; you must set a good example at all times.
5. Being a spirit officer is not an ego trip. It’s plain hard work.
6. I expect the team to come first. I also expect you to keep me aware of difficulties that
may hurt the team, officers, or me and our image.
7. The Celebrity officers must function as a close, cohesive unit. There is not room for any
one member to feel as though she must take the only seat of recognition.
8. You should want to be a spirit officer to work for and support your team, not for any
special perks that can come along with it.
9. You must fulfill the following obligations during tryouts. The requirements and
procedures, hopefully, allow not only the most creative, but the best leaders to be
selected.
Friday, April 8th 2011 – Applications due to dance office at 3pm
Monday, April 25th, 2011 – Notebooks due to dance office by 8am
Monday, May 2nd & Tuesday, May 3rd – Directors/Sr. Officer Interviews –
Monday (Military) & Tuesday (Spirit)
Wednesday, May 4th (7th period) – Presentation of theme to team, TEAM VOTE!
Thursday, May 5th – Spirit officer tryouts at 4pm - ???
Results will be revealed at the conclusion of both spirit and military tryouts.
.
10. Skills and activities you must do on tryout day:
a. Interview with judges
b. Presentation of team theme idea
c. Notebook project will be evaluated by judges
Again, I admire your determination. Please be sure you are trying out for the right reason: You
love and care about the Celebrities dance team, and you feel you can be a positive addition to
them as an officer. Do not tryout because of popularity or because your friends are doing it. Do
it because you really want to help make the Celebrities even better.
An officer should never expect “SPECIAL RULES, SPECIAL ATTENTION, SPECIAL
LENIENCY OR SPECIAL TREATMENT” just because she is an officer. As an officer you
must expect the rules to be more strict and rigid in order to truly set an example. You are very
special but you will not be treated as such. Additionally, becoming an officer does not entitle
you to temper tantrums, mood swings, periods of doubt, selfishness or any other self-interested
act. I expect you to volunteer, be first to report and the last to go, and always be the leader.
Additionally, I want you to start anticipating the director’s needs and assist in any way possible.
Military Officers have additional expenses/time served above being a team member:
2011 Officer Camp – June 9th – 12th - $240 (approx)
Company gifts throughout the year!
