The Girls Stories
Adele’s story
Hello my name is Adele Richardson.
My sisters came to the Pink Palace when they were my age but now
they are 21 and 24.
They told me about all the great times they had coming to the ‘Pinky’.
After I heard most of them I wanted to join myself.
I’ve been coming for nearly 3 years.
I am happy that I am following on the tradition of the girls group and
hope my 2 nieces will too. They are too young to come now so I hope
they will be able to in 5 and 8 years time.
In the Pink Palace we learn how to eat healthily, do arts and crafts and
plan parties for the community.
One of our most successful things was doing a project with Phyllis
Christopher about photography. After we took photos we put them in a
scrap book then had them printed.
We had a photography exhibition where we also opened our new art
room.
We go on great trips and residential.
This year I’ve been on 3 great trips. One to Edinburgh, one to the York
dungeons and one to Blackpool.
Please help us keep the Pink Palace open.
Thank you
Chelsea’s story
I have been coming to the Pink Palace for 2 years because my big sister
called Chantelle came aged 16. Now me and my other sister Laura go.
We are 12 and 13.
The food is very healthy and I love Amina’s curry.
We go on residentials in the summer holidays. We went to Marsett Barn
but the next day we went out and the van broke down and Andy had to
come and take us home. We were all gutted when we had to come
home because we had things planned. Before we went home we went to
a Chinese buffet in the town near St James park.
In year 7 I got beaten up by a year 8 girl and i had a black eye and a
lump on my right temple. I still get bullied at school and at home. We all
love coming to the Pink Palace because that doesn’t happen.
Amina and Ali are the best.
Collette’s story
I felt sad and a bit annoyed when I heard the Pink Palace was going to
close because I will be happy to see my friends little sisters go there in a
few years.
The workers are really friendly and we all think they are supportive.
The Pink Palace has just been decorated outside and had a new class
room built inside because so many people wanted to join so we had to
make more space.
When I first came to the Pink Palace I never knew anyone but now I get
along with everybody and I get on with the workers.
There are a few new people joining in a few weeks aged 8 to 16.
The Pink Palace also helps Dolphin Street when the workers are off for
some reason. They let the girls from there come and communicated with
the girls group from the Pink Palace.
Carol-Ann’s story
I have been coming to the Pink Palace for 4 years because my 2 sisters
have been coming and I am following my sister’s footsteps. My sisters
are called Nicola, aged 21 and Sarah, aged 24.
They worked with Amina Francis and I still work with her.
I have been on residential trips with her and on loads of trips. We went
to Marsett barn and again in the summer holidays.
I have also been working with the girls from Dolphin Street. I went to
Edinburgh zoo, the York dungeons and Blackpool and we have also
been doing a healthy eating policy and loads of other good stuff as well.
Since I’ve been coming to the Pink Palace the best thing is going on the
residential trip to Marsett barn. This was the best thing for me because it
was a new experience and I have never slept in a barn before.
I went camping the year before and it taught me about some camping
skills and I went in the shower with a broken arm.
I wouldn’t have done half the things I have if the Pink Palace wasn’t
here.
Laura’s Story
My sister came to the Pink Palace for 2 years. She’s called Chantelle
and she is 16.
I want to be part of the pink palace because she was and I want to learn.
We go on lots of trips to places like Marsett barn as a treat because we
have been working hard for Amina and Ali.
We get nice food at the Pink Palace and if it gets knocked down there
will be nowhere for us to go.
Jade’s story
I first went down to the Pink Palace when I was 8 years old.
When people have problems they can come down to the Pink Palace
and they have someone to talk to and they are really helpful with school.
I think Scotswood will have nothing to do and nothing to look forward to
after school if the Pinky gets knocked down.
They give you healthy meals and you can find loads of new friends.
If new people moved to Scotswood they would have a place to go and
get to know other children.
The staff are really helpful and they help you with your homework.
Since I have been to the girls group we have been on residentials, done
arts and crafts, photography showcase and loads of other exciting stuff
for people who do not get to go to the groups.
I have since got involved with arts and crafts. Some of it has been great
and some of it has been ok.
Now I have been told that it might be getting knocked down.
