London 2012 is coming – What is your school doing?
In 617 days from now, the opening ceremony of the world’s biggest sporting event will take place in
the UK. Schools are in a great position to harness the once in a lifetime opportunities that this will
create to inspire a new generation of young people to participate in sport in schools and their
communities. The following are some of the initiatives that are available to schools and young
people to maximise the impact of the London 2012 Games.
Young Ambassadors – This is an exciting new opportunity for committed
Sports Leaders to become inspirational role models using London 2012 as
the catalyst to increase participation in their schools and communities.
Gold Young Ambassadors for 2010/11 have been selected in all 22 LA’s
across Wales while recruitment for secondary school Young Ambassadors
known as ‘adiStars’ is currently ongoing. To find out more, including your

sporting challenges. Completion of these skill,
strength, stamina, suppleness and speed challenges
can win those that take part and their schools once in
a lifetime prizes from many of adidas’s sponsored athletes. Contact your Local Authority YA lead
officer or speak with your 5x60 officer to find out about how adistars Young Ambassador
recruitment is going in your school. To find out more on adiStars Young Ambassadors visit

London 2012 inspired activities. This year’s theme will be ‘Personal Best’ and
young people will be encouraged to try for a personal best in a sport or Olympic
and Parlaympic themed event. Schools that sign up will receive resources and
