Drunken Master Movie Review
If you would like to see some good kung fu techniques and Jackie Chans’ funny play this is
the movie for you. The actor plays Fredie Wong and has a problem with authority and
dishonest people. Every time he sees injustice done he is ready to make it right. He has the
will and some strength but no discipline. That’s why his father (Robert Wong) pays his great
uncle to come and train him kung fu for one year. The boy overhears that his uncle cripples
his students during the practice of martial arts and decides to run away from his father’s
house.
Since he has no money and his belly is empty he goes in a restaurant orders some food and at
the end he tries to sneak out without paying. The owner of the restaurant has strong workers
who are about to beat up Fredie when an old drunkard starts fighting on his side and
eventually helps him escape. Soon the master realizes that this is his brother’s son and he
takes him into a house where he is supposed to train him. After a while the boy is fed up with
the harsh work and runs away from his uncle. Naturally, the same day Fredie gets into another
fight with a killer called Thunderleg who shows him that he is weak and good only for
cleaning toilets. Fredie is beaten up and ashamed. He has to leave without his pants because
the killer had thrown them in the fire trying to humiliate the young man and make him think
twice about his self-confidence and his own kung fu skills. Fredie goes back to his uncle to
learn the importance of basics and the techniques of The Eight Drunken Gods. Later, he
defends his father’s name and life in a fight with Thunderleg who ends up dead.
