I'm finally nearing completion on my gyroscope drawing, but AutoSketch's
limitations make it very frustrating to use.
When I'm done, I have to look up references to Carlson's 1964 paper on
elliptic integrals. I probably can't finish deriving the Vlasov
diamagnetism, because I'm pretty sure you have to make the contour
integral of an dangling operator. AFAIK, that simply can't be done, but
I'll look at it again this afternoon, just to make sure.
The procedure gets a little messier when deriving an expression for the
vector potential, but it's basically identical to the method used on the
scalar potential, and a vector identity cleans up the messiest spot,
right in the middle of it. It would make a good conference paper, but
since I don't go to conferences, that option is closed.
Maybe I should put it online? The hard part will be writing web page
with equations, but MathType works with all of MS Office, so FrontPage
should do it. I have to teach myself to use that tool. It's
frustrating to get so close to a really important result and then have
nobody ever see it, especially since a smart kid might be able to fill
in the last step.
