Introduction

 How many have had clients who have had issues due to

unexplained experiences?

– Missing time

– long-term fear from unknown or anomalous origin

 At some point most of you will have at least one UFO

abduction client

 Percentages from 1991/1998 Roper Poll:

– Up to 1% of population have had unexplained event

– 10% of population has seen a UFO of some sort

– Up to 10% of meaningful sightings are close UFO encounters

(abductions?)

Talk Overview

 Goals

– Look at ways of working with the client

– Understand a little more about the phenomenon

in the clients life

 Talk will cover...

– Brief snapshot of UFO/Close-Encounters 101

– How to work with an encounter experiencer

– Implications for experiencer and therapist

– Conclusions/Results I have noted

UFO 101:

 What is a UFO?

• Anything that is unidentified in the sky

• Many have prosaic explanations

• Others do not have conventional explanations (yet?)

• Still others are of high strangeness

(Most Close Encounters fit this category)

 Close Encounter (UFO sighting/encounter up close)

 1st Kind = CE1 (an object up close)

 2nd Kind = CE2 (physical evidence)

 3rd Kind = CE3 (see entities)

 4th Kind = CE4 (abduction)

 No explanation - a mystery, ambiguous, breaks our

present paradigms of reality

Close Encounter Example: “Evelyn”

The Laundry Room CE4

 Witness awoke at about 3AM

 Observed object across field in

trees to north

– View out of laundry room window

on N. Side of house

 Object rose over trees, approached

house

 Attempted to lock down house

windows, doors, etc…

 Too late – entities entering front

 Memory discontinues at that point

Signs of possible UFO abduction

What will you hear during intake interview?

– Missing time

– Theme of the unexplained throughout life

– Frequent meaningful UFO sightings

– Sudden unexplained changes in life/health

– Overriding sense of mystery/fear about the

sky, UFOs, etc.

Working with client- what do you do?

 Not much different from any other client

– Session work will be similar

 First goal is healing - hypnosis is first and foremost, a healing tool

– May be a case of trauma - the need for adjustment

– Often coming to terms with “shattered reality”

 Second goal is understanding - what really happened (from

experiencer's perspective)

 Followup goal is/can-be research - learning more about the

extraordinary realm

– Need to be open to whatever the client may say - avoid any agendas.

– May be paradigm stretching

– Both client and therapist need to be open to whatever may arise

Healing – top priority

 Experiencer is a bridge between worlds

– Goal often is to help experiencer to resolve these two

worlds

 Healing work as needed…

– Based upon client’s goals – some may not need it

 Is “post-contact” trauma present?

– check for fear response

– Treat as any other case of long-term fear

 Parts work often extremely useful at the get-go

Example #2: “Evelyn” (continued)

The “Pulled out of Bed” CE4

 Awoke to sense of entity along side of bed.

 Entity touched her on shoulder

 Flipped over onto front – unable to resist

 Felt self being floated out of bed - pulled by feet

 Memory switches off at time when body about half

way off of foot of bed.

 A day later, found burned spot on the lawn

 Subsequent months: fear of being alone in house

Parts work:

Resolving fear-instilling event

 Couldn’t start with regression, due to fear factor

 Called out part that “helps Evelyn feel the fear”

 Source = religious teaching to fear unexplained

 Also called out a “Spiritual Explorer” part

 Able to resolve between “Spiritual Explorer” and

“Fear” parts

 Allowed Evelyn to explore experiences on

condition that rest of life normal/grounded

 Subsequently, a great deal of info emerged

regarding events

Regression:

Getting to the heart of the matter

 To learn sequence of events in encounter

 Clean regression is paramount

 Limit vocabulary to generic, non-leading

questions/instructions

– “Please continue…”

– “What are you experiencing?”

– “How do you feel about that?”

– “What else do you notice?”

 Multiple passes through event

– Other techniques available but this is the cleanest

way to develop detail

Multiple Passes

 First few passes: Allow account to develop

 Should be stable, with increasing detail.

 If core account varies, may be "creative" in nature

 look for metaphor material.

 If stable, look for increasing detail.

 Dream test:

 ask generic question about what is in the distance

 if detail is present, then may be biographical

 If blank, fog, no detail then may be a dream

Later passes

 Secret details: description of the "interior"

– Comparison with commonly described “classic”

abduction events.

– Similarity suggests that it may be a abduction event

 Ask "false lead" questions

– Avoid leading questions in all cases.

– Can ask “check” questions that lead toward the

“mundane” (no aliens, no abduction, etc…)

 Can ask more detailed questions (stay generic)

 Followup healing work (next slide...)

Reframing and other healing work

 Reframing

– Client specific viewpoints of the event

– Goal is understanding, (self)forgiveness, empowerment

– Re-examine meaning of a given event

 Chair/gestalt therapy

– Put the “leader of the aliens” in the chair

– Empowerment of experiencer

– Release and forgiveness of “them”

 Parts work as needed

 Emotional protection imagery

 Finish with emotional “ecology check”

Understanding & Research

Results: What have I observed to date?

 A core of standard events - the classic abduction

scenario

– Capture

– Taken aboard UFO

– "small gray" aliens with tall gray: the leader/doctor/etc…

– Medical examination

– Apparent sexual/reproductive focus of procedure

– Release and subsequent confusion/mystery

 Purpose/mission/knowledge:

– Many experiencers describe encounter purpose - many and

varied.

– Phenomenon has a role in their life - a core purpose for them

– The experiencer has sense of secret purpose/mission/knowledge

– “will understand when the time is right”

Results (continued)

 Encounters: A lot of outliers

– Sometimes "non-standard" aliens -10-tentacled monsters, blobs, human-

aliens, many others...

– Nature of encounter is sometimes very different – places, events, etc…

(subject of some other talk…)

 Metaphysical events common

– Past-Lives/Interlife or characters from other lives

– Theophany (meeting God)

– Near-death events

– Out of Body events

 Sometimes find that "nothing" happened

– Awareness during Sleep Paralysis (ASP)

– Dream or metaphor material

– Missing time due to some other reason (alcohol, mis-accounting of time,

etc...) – may be meaningful even if not UFO-related

Results (continued):

What are close encounters?

 Don’t know what close encounter actually is

 Physically real or metaphysical in nature? – the

jury is out

– Some indications of physical reality, yet dream-like

behavior

– Superposition of realities?

(topic of another talk)

 Most important – meaningful to the experiencer,

where hypnotherapist can make biggest

contribution

Coming to terms with UFO Abduction

What do we need to do?

 Do everything possible to help heal the "shattered reality" of the

experiencer

– Experiencer is a “bridge between worlds” – realities in both realms

– Reconcile world of “us” and “them”

 Treat phenomenon with Wonder/Discernment/Caution

– We don't know what it is...

– We don’t know it’s motivations

 Determine/Evaluate the scientific reality of the phenomenon

 Understand and manage its impact in our society

– Manage the fear that often results from an encounter

– Understand that “you are not alone”

– Form picture of overall social implications

Conclusion:

 Ultimately - CE4 work is little different from any other HT

work, with the exception that the material is an ongoing

mystery

 Clean regression and healing hypnotherapy can help

experiencer come to terms with experiences

 The more I learn the less I know…

“A riddle, concealed in a mystery, wrapped within an

enigma…”

- J. Allen Hynek

 Experiencer is a bridge between realms – a “Cosmic

Bridge”

(a shameless plug for my book… )

The Cosmic Bridge

Close Encounters and Human Destiny

Explores:

 Impact of encounter on the experiencer

 Evolving relationship between humans

(individual, society) and the phenomenon

 Possible reasons/agendas for presence of the Visitors
