About This Document: In this article, the author describes his attendance at two prominent, ontologically dichotomous conferences. The first academic conference at which he presented a research project and manuscript as a Ph.D. student was during the early fall of 2009. The Public Management Research Conference (PMRC) is biennial and represents the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory .Overall, the experience was a good one; however, at the end of the conference, he still felt like the outsider, and he's almost certain that very few remember his attendance. Shortly after his attendance, a friend and colleague asked whether there was any way to alter his research to present at a different conference, the 23rd annual Public Administration Research and Theory Network (PAT-Net) in Omaha, NE. In complete opposition to his experience at PMRC, the scholars at PAT-Net were not as concerned with his findings as much as they were with the course of his thinking. It seems the empirical world maintains a set of means and predictable ends.
