 INTRODUCTION

Welcome to OSCARS. Located at Lodge Hill Infant School, we provide a safe and

familiar environment in which your children can play outside of normal school hours.

Our aim is to enhance the excellent service already provided by the school.

Our opening times are 3.15 pm to 6.00 pm during term time and 8.00 am to 6.00 pm

during school holidays and occasional days. i.e. training days, subject to demand.

Breakfast Club starts at 7.50 am. Junior aged children are escorted to the Junior School at

8.50 am. Infant children are taken to the playground at 8.45 am where a teacher is then

on duty. Oscars' staff remain on the yard until the school bell rings and the children are

led into school.

English is the main language spoken at Oscars.

We are able to accommodate specific individual needs.

 FEES

Registration costs £5.00 per family and is non-refundable. This goes towards

administration costs and secures your booking.

At present the fees are £6.00 per child per session during term time and £20.00 per day

during the holidays. It is possible to book half days during the holidays at a cost of

£12.00 (8 am to 1 pm) or £11.00 (1 pm to 6 pm). Fees are payable half-termly in advance.

Please make cheques payable to OSCARS. Please note that parents who arrive after 6 pm

to collect their children are fined £5 per child/15 mins.

 STAFF

Michael and Catherine are registered with Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales. Both

have qualifications and experience in the care of children and have been checked by the

Criminal Records Bureau. Other staff are appointed according to their relevant

qualifications and experience and all are “cleared” by CRB. As a group we are subject to

an annual inspection and “spur of the moment checks”. The atmosphere is informal and

children call staff by their first names.

 ADMISSIONS *

Children at Lodge Hill Schools will be given priority on a first come, first served basis,

but children from all local schools may register (subject to availability). However, at

present we do not provide a pick up service, except from Lodge Hill Junior School. If

children are walking to OSCARS, a disclaimer must be signed by a parent or guardian.

 PARENT CONTRACT *

In accordance with the Children’s Act 1989, we must adhere to a ratio of one adult per

eight children. Therefore, should a child be absent for any reason, their place must still

be paid for as this affects our staff levels. (Exceptional circumstances will be given

careful consideration).

 DISCIPLINE *

Children are expected to behave in an appropriate manner. Unacceptable behaviour (i.e.

spitting, swearing, hitting etc.) will be dealt with accordingly.

 HEALTH & SAFETY *

The health and safety of our staff and children is paramount at all times. Please note that

if your child is unwell we reserve the right to refuse admission.

 EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES*

We aim to ensure that the Club reflects and meets the needs of the local community and

incorporates equal opportunities in all areas of our work.

* Policies are on file and available at your request.

 NOTICE BOARD

Our notice board is located in the main lobby between the office and the Headmistress’s

door. Important information will be displayed for your information.

 REFRESHMENTS

Breakfast consists of a choice of cereals, cereal bars and toast together with a milk drink.

Afternoon snack consists of a choice of sandwiches, crisps and biscuits with a sugar free

squash drink. During holiday club sandwiches, crisps, biscuits and yoghurt are provided

for lunch and afternoon snack varies with choices of beans/spaghetti on toast, soup and

bread, hot dogs, noodles with low sugar drinks and milk available. All of the food

provided is in line with the school's healthy eating policy. If your child has any special

dietary needs, allergies or dislikes, please inform us and we will take this into account. In

the holidays three meals are provided for children staying all day.

 GAMES AND ACTIVITIES

A wide range of games and activities are provided, including art & craft, painting,

drawing, puzzles, board games, outside games, drama and music. There is also a quiet

area for reading, and an area for rest and relaxation with a TV and video. Although there

will be plenty on offer, your child will only be encouraged to take part and not forced.

All games and activities will be responsive to the preferences of the children and a file

kept on their appreciation. If your child would like to try any game or activity not already

on offer, please let us know and we will try to provide it as soon as possible.

 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

We are members of the Kids Club Network.

We are represented at New Parent Evenings in conjunction with the School.

In you feel that a complaint has been dealt with in an unsatisfactory manner, you should

contact Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales, South East Wales Region,

6th Floor, Civic Centre, Pontypool. Tel: 01495 761200.

Should you require any information not included in this brochure, please contact

Catherine or Michael on 01633 422121.
