FEB 26, 2006
Motion by R. Hastie and seconded by A. Bianchi that the minutes be accepted as
read. Carried
The President welcomed 15 non-delegates present.
Treasurer’s Report
The current bank balance as of today is $37,604.39. A summary of the year's financial
transactions was reported by Bill Hyder. A full report was made available for anyone
interested in viewing it.
Motion by D. Booth and seconded by B. Moxey that the Treasurer's report be
accepted as read. Carried
Special Events
A special events report was presented by Bill Sheridan and Rick Broere. The Boxing Day
show was a good success and it is the intent to make it an annual function. Everyone was
reminded of the spring seminar on 03 March featuring Bill Mitsui and Paul Hanna from
Chicago. Your ticket price includes a hot lunch. The young bird auction and race was
explained in some detail. It was reported that the AU bands were 80% to 90% sold.
Rules Committee
Dave Booth and Ron Hastie were going to request on behalf of the UNC for the CU to
register the 1000 AU bands in the same manner and for the same price as last year.
Transportation Committee Report
Nothing to report.
Race Secretary Report
The Race Secretary was absent. No report.
At this point the President opened up the floor for comments from the general
membership.
Dave Rodgers suggested that the annual pig roast could be held at Edward's Farm. He
also raised the suggestion of placing advertising on the trailers as a way to generate
revenue. He also suggested that the 20% of UNC band sales retained by the UNC should
be earmarked directly to sports promotion.
Bill Sheridan suggested that there was an inequality when some jobs in the combine are
paid e.g. race secretary and web-master while others are not. He would like to see a
motion at the delegates meeting that all jobs done for the UNC be on a volunteer basis
with no one paid for anything.

Tony Alves raised a point about the Oshawa Gold Bond results having been removed
from the web-site. It was also observed that some past years results have also been
removed. It was agreed that all results would stay posted indefinitely as a permanent
archive.
Dave Rodgers inquired about the feasibility of the combine selling supplies through a
store front.
Tony Puopolo wanted information on the proposed UNC training tosses.
All present were reminded that the next UNC meeting, on 26 March, will also be the
annual constitution meeting.
It was agreed that junior admission to the UNC Seminar would be half price.
Motion by Bill Hyder and seconded by Ron Hastie that the Annual General Meeting
be adjourned.
Carried
Delegates meeting commenced following the adjournment of the Annual meeting with a
reading of the minutes of the last meeting of 20 NOV 2005. The President called for any
errors or omissions.
Tony Puopolo pointed out that the reference to the sloppy book keeping by his club in the
submission of their 2005 flying fees had not changed to "an error in book keeping" on the
minutes posted on the UNC web-site. Mike van der Jagt was to send the amended
minutes to Ron Hastie so that the "error" wording would show up as replacing the
"sloppy" wording.
Ron Hastie pointed out that only 66 people attended the awards banquet, not 80 as
reflected in the previous minutes.
Motion by R. Hastie and seconded by D. Booth that the minutes be accepted as
amended. Carried
Sport Promotion
Tony Puopolo reported that he had been on CH TV on Hamilton breakfast television on
06 January 2006 promoting the hobby with a 3 minute spot. Tony is going to try and
negotiate for some additional on-air time in conjunction with the Pickle Lake race.
He also reported that arrangements had been made to have the Mayor of Pickle Lake
release the birds and include it in the annual Pickle Lake Black Fly Festival activities.
Connie Stacey of the Golden Triangle R.P.C. and the Ottawa Valley Combine has been
working hard to promote the Pickle Lake race in the eastern part of Ontario. She was the
one that made the original contact with CH TV and the Mayor of Pickle Lake.

Tony pointed out that what we really need at these public events is pamphlets to hand out.
He is going to contact both the CU and the AU and see what he can come up with.
Some ideas concerning junior members were floated out by Tony. He and Robert
Rotiroti will have a full report on this issue for the next meeting. John Ludwinski has
offered a box of trophies that can be refurbished and re-awarded. Tony advised that he
will call in at John's and pick them up.
The AU loft registration was also discussed.
The CU requires an officially designated contact for the UNC in the event speedy
communication is required if for example an Avian Influenza shut down. Dave Booth
was designated and advised that he will communicate his name and contact information
to the CU Head Office.
Tony also discussed the possibility of running one of the Combine Open races in
conjunction with a charity. The pigeon sport has used Sick Kids hospital in the past.
It was pointed out that the 2005 junior series race results did not get submitted for
publication in the CU yearbook. It was agreed that all future race results, including the
junior series results should be submitted for publication.
Brian Moxey volunteered to have his name and contact information listed on the UNC
web-site as the designated contact person for stray birds. Brian will ensure that non
pigeon flying members of the public reporting strays will be dealt with in a timely and
appropriate manner. Brian's official title is Up North Combine Stray Wrangler.
Some information on the up coming CU convention was shared. Several clubs have still
not provided a list of handlers for the convention race. Robert Marshall is going to
follow-up with these clubs. The Friday night of the convention is designated Ladies
night. There will be a spa, make-up clinics etc.
A report from Bruce Mathers on the training trailer was deferred until the next meeting.
The next meeting is the annual designated constitution meeting as well as a regular BOD
meeting.
WinBird
Ron Hastie reported that the WinBird program will be adding a CU champion bird and
loft calculation. The CU awards are changing and will be automatically calculated by the
CU. At this point, applications for particular birds still need to be submitted by the owner
applying for the award. The new updates to the program that will allow this should be
available by the end of the old bird races.
Ron also reported the CU head office is carrying some new product lines.

FEB 26, 2006
Anyone interested in the CU sponsored race from Louivcount Que. needs to send their
Mark Brown ID number to the CU.
Bill Hyder advised the meeting that old bird flying fees need to be received by him by 26
March 2006. Flying fees must be paid through the members club and all payments must
include a list of the flyers paying and what series they are paying for.
Seminar tickets are currently available.

UNC Fall Auction
Mike van der Jagt reported on a visit he recently made to Frank McLaughlin's loft in
Warren Oregon. He had inquired as to whether Frank would be interested in doing a
Canadian auction in the fall of 2006. Frank had expressed interest in having the UNC run
an auction for him on our usual terms. He will provide a full slate of 2006 bred birds
including a good selection direct from some of the key breeders.
Motion by Ron Hastie and seconded by Rick Broere that the Up North Combine
host an auction for Frank McLaughlin on Sat 18 NOV 2006 at vanDorf Hall.
Carried
Sports Promotion
There was some discussion about designating 20% of the UNC band sales (less expenses)
as an ongoing sports promotion budget, with the remaining 80% going to prize money as
usual. This suggestion was tabled until the next meeting.
Chris Sousa made the suggestion that perhaps each club could be canvassed directly for
donations to be put into sports promotion.
Motion by Robert Rotiroti and seconded by Dave Booth that junior race results be
included in the overall combine result and that the junior fees remain unchanged.
Carried
Following up on a suggestion made at the Annual General Meeting the issue of the Race
Secretary and the Web Master getting paid while others did combine jobs on a volunteer
basis was discussed. Bill Sheridan had requested that a motion be made that all jobs in
the UNC be done on a volunteer basis with no one receiving any pay. No delegate was
prepared to make a motion to this effect.
The issue of placing paid advertising on the UNC trailers to generate revenue was
discussed.
Motion by Ron Hastie and seconded by R. Marshall that UNC Executive investigate
getting tarps for the trailers to allow for advertising on the sides of the trailers.
Carried
Anyone with information for the web-site can send it to Ron Hastie in Word format and
he will post it. Ron was asking that the release times be sent to him also in word format.
Next meeting date 26 Mar 2006 regular BOD and constitution meeting.
Motion by Dave Booth seconded by Bill Hyder to adjourn. Carried
