PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Patricia Tarpley, CPPB
HAPPY PURCHASING MONTH
The month of March has been designated as purchasing month. This is a great
opportunity to recognize purchasing professionals and thank them their contributions.
MPPA received a Proclamation signed by Governor O’Malley and read it at the March
membership meeting. The Proclamation is posted on MPPA’s website and available for
you to download.
In recognition of Purchasing month I would like to congratulate the 2010 award
recipients for their outstanding services and contributions to MPPA.
Debbie Meehan – Zemansky Award. Debbie is a past MPPA president and
currently volunteers as the Nominating Chair. Thank you for your leadership and
support.
William Davis – Distinguished Service Award. Bill is editor of the Fine Print.
You have done an outstanding job over the years and I thank you for your
patience.
Brandi Naugle – Distinguished Service Award. Brandi is Information and
Research Chair. You are awesome with the MPPA website and we truly
appreciate what you do.
The award recipients have made a difference in the MPPA and you can too! Just
ask how?
I am honored to be a member of this great organization and to be associated with
such talented people.
“I definitely want to be involved but only while I think I can make a contribution and I make a
difference.” Kenny Cunningham

Recruiting in 2011
I am still in the follow-up mode for potential recruits. I have had some success in my
recruiting efforts.
As always, members are encouraged to promote MPPA membership to public
purchasers who aren't members of the association. I consider all members to be part of
the Membership Committee. Please refer any potential new members to me, if they
have any questions.
Please emphasize to your co-workers that our Association is promoting education as one
our benefits for joining. Since everyone in the State of MD is feeling the Budget crunch,
some employers may not pay for educational training. MPPA has funds available to help
members with their education through scholarships and reimbursement.
