This is the rubric that I use to grade spelling sentences and
writing projects:
Punctuation
E = Underlines titles, uses apostrophes, uses a colon for time,
uses a variety of ending marks, uses a comma for lists, uses a
comma for quotations, uses quotation marks.
M = Underlines titles, uses apostrophes, uses a colon for time,
uses a variety of ending marks, uses a comma for lists.
N = Forgets ending mark on 2 or more sentences.
Capitalization
E = Uses capitals at the beginning of a sentence, for names, for
proper nouns, for titles of people, in quotations, and titles of
books.
M = Uses capitals at the beginning of a sentence, for names, for
proper nouns and for titles of people.
N = Forgets capitals at the beginning of a sentences on 2 or
more sentences.
Sentence Form
E = Complete sentences, interesting, a lot of detail, does not
begin sentences with pronouns.
M = Complete sentences, simple sentences with some detail,
does not use pronouns to begin a sentence.
N = Less than 7 words in a sentence, incomplete sentences, bad
grammar, begins sentences with pronouns, overuses words or uses
“dead” words.
Spelling
E = Common words spelled correctly, list words spelled
correctly, advanced words spelled correctly, one ore no spelling
mistakes.
M = Common words spelled correctly, list words spelled
correctly, less than 3 spelling mistakes.
N = Mispelled list words, mispelled basic sight words, more than
3 mistakes.
Handwriting
E = Very neat, all words are within the lines and the appropriate
size, writes within all margins, correctly forms all letters.
M = Neat, right size, writes within the margins, appropriately
forms letters and words.
N = Sloppy, too big or small, doodles, misforms letters, writes in
the margins.
