WELCOME! We are glad you are worshiping with us today. We pray that you will be
challenged and find joy, hope and celebration in this hour spent together in the presence
of God. Please sign and pass the “Ritual of Friendship” booklet; then, return it to the
first person. Note those who worship with you so that you might greet them by name.
PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP
O Jesus, our great High Priest, be present with us as You were present
with Your disciples and make Yourself known to us in the breaking of bread.
Amen.
GOD’S PEOPLE GATHER TO WORSHIP
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
*PASSING OF THE PEACE (Please greet nearby worshipers and return to your seat.)
PRELUDE “Sonata No. XXIII” Scarlatti
INTROIT “We Come As Guests Invited” Trad.
*CALL TO WORSHIP (Responsive)
Leader: We delight to draw near to You, gracious God. We rejoice in the many
gifts You have given us.
All: We lift up our hearts and voices in praise. We humble ourselves
before the God of all worlds.
Leader: We gather to remember God‟s commandments. We seek for ourselves
the wisdom God imparts.
All: The wisdom of God is not like any other. It draws us away from
the world’s agenda.
Leader: God sends us into the world with new priorities. We are grounded in
the Spirit that we might be discerning.
1
All: We are filled with the mind of Christ. We are already citizens of God’s
realm.
*PRAYER OF INVOCATION (In Unison)
May our voices rise like trumpets to greet You, holy God. May our
ears be attuned to know Your ways. May our hearts be steady, focused on
You. Praise be to You, O God, Whom we worship with awe and delight.
Guide us, we pray in this time of worship. Touch us at the points of our
deepest need. Stir us amidst our entrenched complacency. Make us strong
to loosen the bonds of injustice, to undo the things of the yoke, to let the
oppressed go free. Then Your light will break forth like the dawn and we
will experience Your healing care. Amen.
*HYMN “O Day of Radiant Gladness” No. 470
*CALL TO CONFESSION (Lay Reader)
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (In Unison)
Gracious God, help us to be honest with ourselves, with one another
and with You. We have searched for life amid temporary attractions. We
have sought excitement in places that turned out to be desert wastelands. We
have burdened others with our mistakes. We have sought honors and made
comparisons to look better than those around us. We have devoted little time
to thanking and praising You, the Source of all things. Open us now, O God,
to the Word we need from You. Amen.
*KYRIE No. 574
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON (Lay Reader)
*GLORIA PATRI No. 579
GOD’S PEOPLE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD
PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION (In Unison)
God of mystery and of judgment, Who has made us to be salt and
light in a tasteless, shadowed world, grant to us such understanding of
conditions around us and spiritual discernment that others may see Your
good works through us, give You the glory, and be moved to serve You.
Amen.

in parched places and made our bones strong. Now we wish to offer to the
world the amazing wonders we have experienced. Let our righteousness and

WHAT’S BEEN GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE? Remember to let STEEPLE
PEOPLE know when something happens! We now have several feature
categories to spark some thoughts you could share:
WHAT I DID LAST SUMMER could be anything from a vacation of a
lifetime to making mud pies with the kids.
A SPECIAL PERSON OF FAITH gives you the opportunity to raise to
our awareness someone who has inspired you by his or her faithfulness.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW? is our newest feature and is a tool to help
us keep up with the ever-changing world of those who grew up in this
Church. A form will be included in the February Spire for this
information.
And we‟d love to have anything humorous you could offer. For example, did
anyone notice that Rusty had two different colored socks on last Sunday? (He
didn‟t, but wouldn‟t it have given you a chuckle?). How to get your story to
STEEPLE PEOPLE: put it in mail box titled STEEPLE PEOPLE in the
Church Office, email it to the Church (fpcwarren@hotmail.com) or email it to
Sue Kindelberger (SueAKind@aol.com).
