GDC strikes deal with Warner Mycal Corporation to deploy digital cinema
systems under VPF scheme
CINEASIA, Hong Kong (December 8, 2010) – GDC Technology (“GDC”), a world leading digital
cinema solution provider, in conjunction with its partner, USHIO Inc., is pleased to announce today
the signing of a contract to supply DCI-compliant digital cinema equipment under the VPF scheme,
to Warner Mycal Corporation (“WMC”), a leading Japanese cinema chain.
VPF schemes are extremely beneficial to exhibitors in that under such schemes, studios will provide
temporary financial support to exhibitors thus reducing their initial capital outlay required for digital
conversion. Currently in Asia, GDC holds VPF agreements with the largest number of Hollywood
Studios. With the combined benefits of quality technology and financial support from major
Hollywood Studios, GDC’s digital cinema solution is possibly the best choice available for Asian
exhibitors in roll-out package under the VPF scheme. Scheduled to commence in 2011, this deal will
involve the deployment of GDC servers and Christie projectors across XX WMC cinemas and XXX
screens.
Established in 1964, USHIO, a pioneer in the light sourcing industry with a focus on lamps, now
offers a range of light technology from light source units, devices, systems and solutions.
Possessing an abundance of unique optical technology knowledge, USHIO, through its subsidiary
Xebex Inc., is also a well established digital cinema system integrator.
WMC is a joint venture between Warner Bros. International Cinemas and Japan’s leading retailer
Aeon Group. Established in 1993, WMC has aggressively developed cinema chains across Japan
and currently operates 60 theatres totaling 493 screens. Dedicated to bringing the most advanced
technology to maximize the cinematic experience for customers, many of Warner Mcyal’s screens
are now equipped with 4D technology and superior sound systems.
“We are delighted that GDC and USHIO are jointly offering this new VPF scheme, which has come
at the perfect time for us as we are currently expanding our digital installations,” said [Name],[Title]
of WMC. “GDC is a global leader in digital cinema technology with a wealth of experience and
expertise; we are pleased to engage GDC and USHIO to outfit our new digital cinemas under the
VPF scheme.”
“"We value our partnership with WMC and are thrilled to be working with them on their digital cinema
rollout in conjunction with GDC,” said [Name] [Title] of USHIO. “Being part of the digital solution for
WMC while having GDC as our working partner is right where we want to be. We feel totally at ease
and comfortable.”
“It is an honor to provide WMC with a package that includes significant cost-savings and a
sustainable digital cinema roll-out strategy under the VPF scheme,” said Dr. Man-Nang CHONG,
founder and CEO of GDC Technology. “We assure WMC the highest quality digital cinema
equipments and continued technical support so as to maximize the cinematic experience for their
customers. GDC is optimistic to accelerate the market penetration in Japan in tandem with the rising
trend of digital cinema conversion worldwide.”
