       Selected Solo Performance Reviews
• “Huff brought out the music‟s qualities with eloquence, power and authority. His tone is
magnificently rich, strong and steady and full, and his technique, which was tested particularly in
the first movement, is brilliantly accomplished. In the cadenzas, and in the singing second
movement, there was a commanding personal quality in the way he expressed the music. It was
playing of extraordinary excellence.” [Bassoon Concerto, K. l9l, W.A. Mozart]
                                                                             The Sacramento Bee

• “He has a creamy, suave tone especially appealing in the middle and high registers. His
technique is such that the intricacies of the work pose no problems for him. Yet what really
distinguishes his playing is the justness of his phrasing and his lively imagination. Mozart wrote
this concerto before Berlioz relegated the bassoon to being the clown in the orchestra, and Huff
played the work for all of its lyric beauty.”
                                                                            The Sacramento Union

• “...the smooth and tasteful playing of the new first bassoon, Douglas Huff.” [Sixth Symphony,
L. v. Beethoven]
                                                                            The Sacramento Bee
• “Exemplary of this careful musicianship was the woodwind work, especially by principal
bassoonist Doug Huff...It was resonant of a pastoral dawn, sweet yet dewy cool.”
[Pastorale d’Ete, Honegger] Dubuque Telegraph Herald

Fagott u. Orchester, K.l9l, W.A. Mozart] Die Mittelbayerische Zeitung

                                  Douglas Huff – 9/28/2011 4
Orchester, A. Vivaldi] Das Chamerblatt

[Sinfonia Concertante, J.
Haydn] Die Woche

Selected Reviews of the Camerata Woodwind Quintet CD
• “Their playing is tight, sensitive, and always laced with an awareness of that give-and-take
necessary for good chamber music.”
                                                                                         Flute Talk
• “…with „expert‟ the adjective „youthful describes the music-making on this CD.”
                                                                      International Record Review

• “Highest marks to the Camerata Quintet for giving us such stellar performances of these three
great new pieces. I give this wonderful CD my very highest recommendation and throw in a few
“Bravos” to boot!”
                                                                               The Double Reed
