“THIS SABBATH we will be continuing the series on the Beatitudes, “The Great Omission,” a series of messages
by the pastors explaining the Beatitudes which Jesus announced in the Sermon on the Mount. This Sabbath’s
sermon by Pastor Michael is called “Let God be God.” It is a message based on Matthew 5:5, “Blessed are the
meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
COMMUNION SABBATH will be April 4.
SUNSET March 28, 2009 will be at 7:14 p.m.
DEAR CHURCH FAMILY, I will be in Ohio for the next ten days. My father has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. My
sister and I are going to spend some time with our parents deciding the best courses of action to take now and
in the future. We have already experienced odd behaviors on the part of my father and therefore want to make
his care and future as secure as is possible. I know many of you have been through this with your families and
loved ones so my heart goes out to you. Those experiences are heart breaking as we see loved ones deteriorate.
Only God through Jesus Christ will restore our loved ones and our broken hearts. Praise be to God. Remember
my family in your prayers. Pastor Larry
WINGS - (Women IN God's Service) - Thank you for remembering the women's ministry with your gifts of support.
Because of you, over 30 TLC baskets have been given out to women within our church family and even into the
community, to those who have been going through some challenging times. Once again, thank you, and may
continue to bless you, as you are blessing others. ~The WINGS team.
DO YOU GET THE PEW? If you don’t get The Pew by e-mail or our website, there are copies available on the table
outside.
PART 2 OF HOLY LAND VISIT WITH THE BROWNFIELD’S. Sabbath afternoon, March 28, at 4
p.m. In our second program we will visit more sights in Jerusalem—the Garden Tomb and
Calvary, the most likely area of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection; the Ophel (2 Chron
33:14, Neh 3:26-27), the high place where Solomon’s temple stood and where ten years of
archeology next to the temple mount have confirmed so much of Bible history. Then we’ll
journey south to Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, Masada, Herod’s mountain
fortress where a thousand Jewish rebels died after the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. We’ll
travel next to Petra, land of the Nabateans who controlled the spice trade for a thousand years
(and where the wise men may have purchased their gifts for Jesus.) Then on to Mount Sinai
(one traditional location) in Egypt. On our way back to Jerusalem, we’ll stop by Solomon’s
copper mines in Timna Park, visit a life-sized model of the wilderness sanctuary, and hear the
conversion story of our Jewish guide. Lastly, we’ll visit the Valley of Elah where David fought
Goliath. Learn things that will help you in your Bible study, and join us for an afternoon of
inspiration. (Pictured: Deb on Mt. Sinai; Michael at Masada’s Roman Fortress)
SHUFFLE IN CROWD-Have you ever been surprised? I mean really surprised? I was on Wednesday of this week. I
went to purchase a copy of a new book titled Liberty and Tyranny at Barnes and Noble. To my shock there were 4
1
people in line in front of me at the information desk asking for the same book. So I got into my car and drove to
the Borders book store. They had a stack of about 10-12 books prominently displayed at their information
counter. I grabbed 4 copies. As I was waiting in line to pay for them I noticed that the 2 people in front of me also
were buying the book. I spoke to the man directly in front of me about his purchase and he informed me that at
the book signing for this book in New York city 6,000 people showed up. If you want to hear this book read it is
available to you the shuffle in crowd on our computer. Just go download it onto your shuffle. I believe it is a book
that will be seminal in describing the journey our country, the United States will take, while we as Adventists look
for the "Lamb" who will become the "beast."
ARE YOU TIRED OF TRYING TO CONTROL EVERYTHING IN YOUR LIFE—YOUR HURTS, HANG-UPS, HABITS? Are you
tired of trying to be God and you at the same time? Why not learn how to let God be in control and find the
wonderful peace and healing He offers. There are two jobs: God’s and mine! We have been trying to do God’s
job, and we can’t! On the flip side, He won’t do our job. We need to do the footwork! We need to admit that we
are not God and that our lives are unmanageable without Him. Then, when we have finally emptied ourselves,
God will have room to come in and begin His healing work. At Celebrate Recovery, we learn how to release our
hurts, hang-ups and habits into the hands of God. In this supportive, confidential group, we are learning how to
find the release and peace God offers. Join us this coming Tuesday night at 7 p.m. (and every Tuesday night) in
the multipurpose room. Or call Yoli or Henry Hernandez for more information (805) 443-9545.
IF YOU BORROWED THE GRIDDLES that were in the closet in the Fellowship hall, please return them so we have
them to use for church activities. Thank you!
PLEASE NOTE! Beginning the first Sabbath of March the church board has voted to changes in our morning
worship service. First Sabbath school will end at 10:55am. The worship service will begin at 11:10am. This 15
minute break is designed to give families a chance to find their children after Sabbath School and prepare for
the worship service. We hope this short period of time will give everyone a time to regroup and stretch before the
worship service.
BECAUSE OF THE FINANCIAL CRUNCH the board has voted to cancel the weekly flower arrangements. If you
would like to dedicate a weekly arrangement for an important event in the life of your family, please feel free to
call the office and reserve that date. Kristy will make the arrangement for a floral arrangement for that Sabbath.

FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK
What's Prettier Than Freckles?-- Author Unknown
An elderly woman and her little grandson, whose face was sprinkled with bright freckles, spent the
day at the zoo. Lots of children were waiting in line to get their cheeks painted by a local artist who
was decorating them with tiger paws.
"You've got so many freckles, there's no place to paint!" a girl in the line said to the little fellow.
Embarrassed, the little boy dropped his head. His grandmother knelt down next to him. "I love your
freckles. When I was a little girl I always wanted freckles," she said, while tracing her finger across the
child's cheek. "Freckles are beautiful."
The boy looked up, "Really?"
"Of course," said the grandmother. "Why just name me one thing that's prettier than freckles."
The little boy thought for a moment, peered intensely into his grandma's face, and softly whispered,
"Wrinkles."
HEALTH NUT
Are You Listening? Author: Vibrant Life
Attentive listening benefits the physical and psychological health of both listeners and speaker. "We
feel important when someone takes the time to hear us out," says Rebecca Shafir, a communications
expert. "Having a confidant can decrease blood pressure, strengthen the immune system, and boost
4
self-esteem."
Listening strengthens relationships and has a powerful influence on health and well-being. Also
positron emission tomography (PET) scans reveal blood flow increases to many parts of the brain—
invigorating the mind of the listener.
To be a better listener:
Quiet your mind. Internal noise levels mask what others are saying.
Talk less. Multitasking—speaking and listening—doesn't work.
Don't interrupt. This implies your words are more important.
Forego unwanted advice. Ask permission to give your opinion.
Resist telling your own story. This shifts focus away from the speaker.
