• Always enjoyed reading, but unsatisfied
with young adult literature
• In order to publish her novel, Susan Eloise
Hinton, shortened her name to S.E. Hinton,
hoping it would trick publishers into
thinking she was a male. She didn‟t believe
she would be published if they knew a girl
had written the story.
• First novel The Outsiders was published in
1967 when she was only 17 years old

write.
– The other piece of advice is „Just do it!‟

down and write.”
