Aeries Secondary AGENDA:

3.25-hour Aeries Teacher Training for Secondary Schools

 Aeries username is identical to Novell name. Password for everyone has been set

to “welcome”, but user will be forced to change password upon first login.

 During Teacher Training week only (8/9 thru 8/13/10 only):

o For Attendance training only, use the Test database. You will see real

students and classes, and 8/9 thru 8/13 will be listed as mock school dates

so you can practice. http://abi3.fsusd.org/abi/

o For Gradebook training, use the Production database. This is the real

deal! Any changes you make here will be saved. http://abi1.fsusd.org/abi/

♫ Check browser address bar. Are you where you think you are?

 When school starts (beginning 8/16/10 and thereafter):

The Aeries icon login will be delivered to everyone’s desktop, or you may

enter it in any browser. Internet Explorer is preferred by Aeries.

o Here is the internal (inside FSUSD) URL: http://abi.fsusd.org/abi/

o Here is the external URL (working from home): http://abip.fsusd.org/abi/

Home

 Event calendar

o To delete event, put in day view

o Adding assignments places events on the calendar

Attendance

 Take attendance:

o Holding pattern, absent, present, tardy – define buttons

o Student # vs. perm # (student # is connected to school, perm# follows

student)

o Red asterisk (dangerous student) SSA date – three years from date of

infraction

o Absent summary

o Enrollment summary – only current school – does not include history of

schools attended.

 Take attendance by photo:

o Can be done the same as the “take attendance”

o District will be responsible for uploading photo

 Seating chart: three (3) ways to set-up

o Type the location in the box by seat and row (A1)

o Mass assign seats

o Free form view (labs, odd table set-up)

 Drag icons w/photo down to work area

 Drop-down will show those still available for placement

 Danger – if icons are overlapped, attendance radio buttons will be

covered.

 Reports

o Weekly attendance report – probably what we will print and sign

o Attendance Log – the way to see who has made changes to the students’

attendance. Check attendance before signing.

o Daily Attendance Summary Report

o Class Attendance Labels (see the options) – need Avery 5150 labels.

o Class Roster – could be used for attendance by subs

Grade Reporting

 Enter grades

 Enter citizenship

o Mass entry

 Enter comments

o Need a cheat sheet

 The reset button at the top RESETS back to the last submit.

Student Info

 Testing – reports can be created with Multi-Data Profile that have 20 field for data

 Assertive Discipline vs. Discipline vs. Visitation – “rights” needs to be defined.

Gradebook

 New

 Type F or S so I know that they are two separate gradebooks – resetting the

grades. Or Q1, Q2, Q3 – whatever you want

 Enter dates for the gradebook – the term

 Add gradebooks - have three for training using gradebook maintenance

 Linking gradebooks

o Any assignment I put in a World History gradebook goes to all World

History gradebooks if linked.

o Click Link Gradebook – gradebooks with same numerical value are

linked. 0 is not linked…hit submit. BUT before you link, think.

o Once unlinked, do not relink…. the gradebook will add assignments to a

class that may not be assigned.

 Manage Students

o Low assignment and high assignment – these are the assignment numbers

that are assigned. A student who leaves has a grade assignment for

assignments 1-34. Students who are there for the year can all remain 0 in

both columns.

Aeries Secondary AGENDA:

o Transfer button allows transfer IF same teacher, same course, gradebooks

are linked, then transfer will work

o Delete – cannot return to gradebook, four clicks. This is only for students

who are NO SHOWS at the beginning of school. Only do when someone

asks the teacher to do it.

o Drop and the student appear at the bottom. This is what we use!!!

o Sort – allows you to group students by a common number. Group the 1’s

 Edit assignment type

o Choose types and description, determine if you want weighted scoring,

then weight the scoring. It can be adjusted.

 Edit assignment

o Max score vs. max possible : if max possible is 17 and the max score is

20, then the raw score can be entered…16,17,7 and the grade will be

calculated by Aeries – 16/17 =

 Assignments

o To add an assignment in between, go to add assignment and then change

the number to place in the correct order. To add assign #2, change the

number to #2. Do not change the date and sort by date if you are going to

use the high and low assignments.

o Entering scores – use the default value (see the bottom) and then submit to

enter values for all.

o Entering scores – RSP student expected to 2/3 of work, which would give

50/75 score. Then set max possible to 50.

o “na” – didn’t hurt, didn’t help.

o Leaving blank is a “missing” assignment that can be made up. O is a

missing assignment that is being given 0 credit.

o For comments, default comment to “Great Work” and then change

defaults.

o Max# possible:

o Grading completed must be checked and then click submit AFTER all

entering of scores for an assignment is completed.

 Scores by Student – how a student is doing – discuss with parents

o Use Print Preview to look at the more user friendly display

o Options – allows for more views on the Scores by class page

 Show only current gradebook – turn on otherwise teacher sees a

gradebook that is inactive.

 Inactive gradebook can still have work done in them.

 Count Assignments toward Final Grade immediately after a Score

is entered. This allows score to be counted for students whose

scores are entered, but it does not penalize those whose scores are

not entered.

 Grading rules: Negative weight or percentage. If I drop by

percentage then drop 7/10 not 80/100, but if I drop by negative

weight – the 80/100 will be dropped as it is worth more.
