Use these limericks with words deleted as a cloze procedure or as examples
to get the class going! Making your own and talking about the
characters is fun.
Extend the activity into other jobs, such as doctors, firemen, or, dare I
suggest it, teachers!
Pirate limericks
There was an old pirate called Billy
Who liked to wear shirts that were frilly
He’d walk round the ship
With his hand on his hip
But the crew thought he looked rather silly!
There was an old pirate called Jack
Who fancied a bit of a snack
He caught a big fish
But he sighed “How I wish
That instead I could have a Big Mac!”
There was an old pirate called Frank
Who went for a sail in a tank
He found it could cope
Round the Cape of Good Hope
But just off Madagascar, it sank!
There is an old pirate called Justin
Who keeps the place shipshape by dustin’
He’s a glorious mover
When he pushes the Hoover
But the state of his washing’s disgustin’!
There was an old pirate called Jake
Who adopted a young rattlesnake
When it coiled round his leg
He would swear and then beg
And if that failed, he’d give it a shake!
