21st century yoga strategies for
well-being and health maintenance
Weekend retreat at Croydon Hall, Somerset, 8-10 April 2011 with Andrea Newman
Springtime is the season for new growth and renewal. Turn over a new leaf at this spring retreat
and learn new skills and realistic approaches towards improving your health and well-being. Give
yourself a relaxing and friendly weekend break, away from your usual routine, surrounded by the
beautiful Somerset countryside. There will be delicious and nourishing fresh vegetarian food
provided along with regular yoga sessions to help you detox and feel refreshed.
The course of workshops will give you time out to reflect on your life and how you can make small
changes to better support yourself within a modern lifestyle. You will look at how to develop and
maintain good posture - the cause of much back and joint pain, which tends to worsen if not
effectively addressed. There will be an exploration of your individual walking patterns, office
yoga, an introduction to meditation, and a look at stress management and relaxation.
The pressures of modern living can become overwhelming at times, often causing anxiety and
depression. You will go home from this weekend with new insights and ideas on how to nurture
yourself towards a full and vibrant life in a realistic and manageable way.
Andrea will lead a variety of workshops where you will learn practical
methods and strategies to maintain your own physical and emotional
health. You will practice yoga postures, underpinned by Raja Yoga
philosophy, which promotes good mental health, and the bodywork of
Rolfing® Structural Integration, which promotes good bodily health.
Sessions will be informal, respectful and playful. Everyone works at their
own level, so sessions are suitable for all. No prior experience of yoga is
needed – the only requirements are life experience and an open mind.
Andrea teaches yoga and trains yoga teachers (BWY) in Somerset. With a background in
biochemistry, she is also a qualified Rolfer™ and Stress Management Trainer. Her teaching reflects
the connectedness we have with one another, alongside the celebration of our individuality.
Andrea says: ‘Yoga is a wonderful toolbox suitable for everyone when used appropriately for each
individual at different times of life. Yoga can be practised for general physical and emotional
health maintenance, for management of medical conditions, for healing, for personal
development, and simply for the joy of it! Yoga is brilliant when it’s challenging but do-able,
empowering, relaxing and fun. Yoga is about learning to flow with life and be fully ourselves.’
