Regents committee meets here today
The UI Hospitals and Clinics Committee of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, holds its first
meeting today in the Clasen Board Room. The committee, newly organized by the Board, will
hear the operating and financial performance report from Director and CEO Donna Katen-
Bahensky and Associate Director and CFO Anthony DeFurio. Katen-Bahensky will also provide
her director’s report and an update on the IowaCare program, and review ongoing partnership
discussions. Finally, Senior Associate Director John Staley will present the FY 2007 Capital Plan.

Woman charged with shooting fireworks at helicopter
Annoyed with a sheriff’s helicopter flying over her house on a recent night, Marjorie Thompson,
44, of Orlando, Florida, ran outside with a bottle rocket launcher and started shooting rockets at
the aircraft, police said. The helicopter was in the area searching for a suspect in a car theft.
Couric bids Today farewell
With Matt Lauer bringing the box of tissues, the Today show threw a going-away party today for
15-year host Katie Couric, who is leaving to become the next anchor of the CBS Evening News.
Armstrong cleared of doping charges
Independent Dutch investigators cleared Lance Armstrong of doping in the 1999 Tour de France
today, and blamed anti-doping authorities for misconduct in dealing with the American cyclist.

UI FOOTBALL/DEGOWIN DONOR DRIVE CAMPAIGN: The UI Football Program and the DeGowin Blood Center are
joining forces in a yearlong campaign to encourage blood donors to save lives. The partnership kicks off from 10 a.m. to
3 p.m. Monday at the UI Hall of Fame Museum, where Coach Kirk Ferentz will join members of the football family and
other donors in giving blood. Participants can enter a raffle for an autographed football and will receive the new DeGowin

HEALTHY OVERWEIGHT FEMALE VOLUNTEERS aged 18 to 50 years are invited to participate in a research project
involving tests to assess risk for heart disease. The study involves one visit to the General Clinical Research Center and
radiology, lasting about 1½ hours in total. Participants should be regularly menstruating nonsmokers with no major health
