High School Graduation Poem
A tribute to you Jolene this display How many teens can say that they sung
As you graduate high school in Shelton today For President Clinton and crowds by the ton
All of us here, your family so dear For thousands of fans at Fenway Park
Wish you the best as you venture this year At Gillette Stadium you too made your mark
You’ve brought us pride in so many ways It’s safe to say that singing’s your passion
Now we’ll recount the best of the days Then next come make-up, jewelry and fashion
When you were small you had silky long hair Oh how the years they have flown
“Locks” to this day, you still handle with care You’re a young woman, my how you’ve grown
You treasured a bunny you slept with at night The places you’ve traveled, the things you have seen
“Don’t take it away or I’ll put up a fight” The Pope in Italy and the Vineyard so green
Some kids drag a blanket ‘til they are quite old Family vacations, sunrise and sunset
Jolene doesn’t sleep without bunny to hold A Boxer named Molly, the family pet
Certain habits are just hard to break Nana and Peter, Mom and Ellen too
But think of the funny stories they make Uncles and Aunts, all so proud of you
At the age of seven you discovered your voice As your high school years come to a close
Uncle John’s wedding, your debut of choice What comes next we can only suppose
“Check out my niece, she really can sing” At eighteen years old, you’ve got so much ahead
To listen to you is a beautiful thing And you’ll fondly look back on these times that you
led
This poem was published in a high school yearbook – commissioned by a Mom who bought a page
in the book for her daughter.
