    1.0: Information Technology Services
                    Center
Information Technology Services Center (IST) is responsible for ensuring the adequacy
of academic and administrative computing facilities at LUMS.

   Mission:
    To provide leadership and innovation in information technology planning
    To implement efficient technology infrastructures to provision
    Support effective campus information systems
    To deliver responsive IT support services

                                   2.0: LOGIN

   2.0.1 How do I log in?

For Login into Computer, you must have following credentials.

      A Username and Password provided by HR or Head of Department.
      A Computer connected with Internet (Network).


Switch on your PC by pressing the power button.

   1. After all the applications (Windows) have been loaded, a small window will
      appear in the middle of your monitor screen, directing to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete.




   2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete simultaneously.
   3. A small window “Logon to Windows” will appear in the middle of your screen.
   4. Type your login ID in the „User name‟ field (e.g. alikh, maria.khan, jdoe89 etc)
   5. Type your password (case sensitive) in Password field.
   6. Select LUMS in Log on to field.

   7. Click OK button on the bottom left to log in.




   2.0.2 Why am I unable to login?
    Type correct User name and Password (case sensitive) in the specified fields.
    The domain should be set as LUMS in the „Log on to‟ field. If Log on to field is
     not visible the click the Options button on the bottom right of the window.
    Your computer must be connected to Network.


If still can‟t log in call IST helpdesk (Ext: 4149).


   2.0.3 I have forgotten, or don't know my password. What should I
         do?
If you have forgotten your password, contact IST Help Desk (Ext: 4149) and ask for a
new password.


2.0.4 How do I change my password?
There are multiple options for changing your password.


     You don‟t know your password:
If you have forgotten your password or want to change it, Contact IST Help Desk (Ext:
4149) to get your password changed of your own choice.

          2. Click on „Option‟ button on top right corner of your window.

3. In the „Options‟ pane on left, Click on „Change Password‟.




4. Enter your Current and new password which you desire.

5. Click on Save button on the top of Change Password Menu.




6. It will save your new password and will prompt Saved Successfully.

   Change Password through Computer

1. By clicking Clt+Alt+Delete button simultaneously, following window will
   appear.




2. Click on “Change Password”. It will then ask your old password and let you
   change your password.

2.0.5 Start up Errors
If you get an error as shown on the screen below simply,
     Press F1 to continue
    Don‟t panic if you get an error while starting the system. Just read the instructions
    carefully and follow them.

2.0.6 Keyboard Error

If you get keyboard error, check the keyboard wire if it is plugged properly. Plug it
properly and keyboard will be detected automatically.

                                    3.0: E-mail
Email can be access through
   Web: http://campusmail.lums.edu.pk/
   Microsoft Exchange: Through Microsoft Office Outlook installed in your
       computer.



3.0.1 How to configure Microsoft Exchange (MS Outlook):

   1. Go to Start button the bottom left of your screen and select Control Panel.
   2. Click Mail. The window as shown below will open, click Show Profiles.




   3. Click on Add. Another window will appear. Write your username (same as which
      you use to log on in windows) in the „New Profile‟ and click „OK‟.

4. Click on “Prompt for a Profile to be used” and then press OK

5. Another window will appear. Select „Add a new e-mail account‟.
6. Click Next button.

7. Select Microsoft Exchange Server and click the „Next‟ button




8. Type „e2k7emc.lums.net‟ in the Microsoft Exchange Server Box
9. Check Use Cached Exchange Mode.
10. Type your name in User name.

11. After writing User Name, press “Check Name” so that you can select the correct
    ID if multiple IDs exist with that name.


12. Click „Next‟ and then click Finish.

   13. Run your Outlook, a small window will open, select your desired Profile Name
       from drop down list and if you are willing to use this account only, select your
       Select always use this profile option.




   14. Now open Microsoft Outlook and you are ready to send and receive emails.




3.0.2 I cant send receive
It is better to close outlook properly and open it again.

Disconnected status
If the status appears to be disconnected on the bottom left of Microsoft Outlook window,
close the window of Microsoft Outlook and then open again.

If still cannot send/receive then check following
              Internet connection, plug network cable properly.
              Check account free space.

If still getting problem, call IST Help Desk.




3.0.3 What is the maximum file size allowed to send through LUMS
mail?

   10MB is the maximum file size allowed to send through LUMS mail.

3.0.4 Out of Office Reply- MS Outlook 2003
When you are out of office or on a leave, you can turn ON, out of office reply which will
help the senders know that you wont be able to send them replies to their email.


1.      Go to Inbox in your Microsoft Outlook.

2.      On the Tools menu, click Out of Office Assistant.




     Note: The Tools menu appears on the main Outlook window i.e. Inbox. The
     Tools menu is not available in windows where you create or view items such as
     e-mail messages, contacts, or tasks.

3.      Click I am currently Out of the Office.



4.      In the AutoReply only once to each sender with the following text box,
     type the message that you want to send to other people while you are out.

3.0.5 Turn off automatic replies- MS Outlook 2003

To turn off the rule you created in step 2 above, do the following:

1.      On the Tools menu, click Rules and Alerts.




2.      On the E-mail Rules tab, clear the check box for the rule you want to turn
     off.




3.0.6 Turn on delivery report- MS Outlook 2007


     1. Open a new message
     2. Click options tab.
     3. Click the request a delivery report or request a read receipt.

                                   4.0: Printer
4.0.1 Configure Network printer

          1. Go to Start, click Run.




          2. Type \\prn01 in Run, click OK.




Note: If you get an Error: Network path not found then type 10.99.0.167 instead of
\\prn01.

           3. A window will open showing all the printers installed on print server.




           4. Check the queue of printer which is installed at your end. Double click
              that printer. The following window will appear.
           5. Click Printer menu and Select „Set as Default Printer‟.




Now you are ready to take prints. You will only be able to take prints through this default
printer.

4.0.2 Add a printer (Personal Printer)

You can add a printer manually your own printer which can only be used by you..

   1. Go to Start and click Printer and Faxes.




   2. Click Add a printer on top left.

3. Click Next




4.   Select „Local printer attached to this computer‟, Uncheck „Automatic detect
     and install my Plug and Play printer‟. Then click „Next‟.

5. Select Use the following port. Click Next




6. Select the Manufacturer of the printer installed at your end and the model
   number. If found Click Next.

Note:
        i.    If manufacturer or printer is not listed, then insert CD provided with the
              printer into CD ROM and click „Have Disk‟ button.




    ii.       The window shown below will appear. Click „Browse‟ button and select
              CD drive. Press OK.

7. Select „Keep existing driver‟ and click Next.




8. Select Yes and click Next.

9. Select Do not share this printer and click Next.




10. Select Yes or No, if you wish to print a test page or not. Click Next.

   11. Click Finish.




You have successfully installed the printer.
If you are unable to configure the printer, call help desk for further assistance.

4.0.3 Can’t Print
This maybe due to various reasons

     Limited Printing Quota
RA‟s and TA‟s have a fixed quota (no. of pages) they can print. Whereas, faculty and
staff members have an open quota.

    Unavailability of Network
Check the power plug and network cable if it is plugged properly.

    Printer Offline
Check Printer power and Network cable plugged in properly

    Paper Jam
Call IST Help Desk (4149)


4.0.4 Delete printer
   1. Go to Start and click Printer and Faxes.




   2. Right click on the printer which you want to delete. Select „Delete‟.

4.0.5 Paper jam

  1. Open the tray of the printer and look for where is the paper jammed.
  2. Try removing it, if it does not remove easily then call helpdesk.

                       5.0: DISK CLEAN UP

5.0.1 Why is my system so slow?
   How do I clean my hard drive?

  System maybe running slow because of your filled hard drive. So you need to clean up your
  hard drive to remove unnecessary files.

  Follow the following steps.

  1. Go to Start.
  2. Click All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Cleanup

3. Select the drive which you wish to clean. If the system is running slow then it is
   recommended to clean the (C:) drive.

4. Press OK button after you have selected the drive to be cleaned.
5. The following screen appears.




6. When following window opens, Check all checkboxes and Press OK

7. Again, press Yes in the dialog box for confirmation, which appears as shown below.

                    6.0: CREATE BACK UP

6.0.1 How to create backup?
  You should back up the important data, in case your hard drive corrupts or an error occurs
  with your system at sometime.
  What you can do is:


Method 1
  Write the important data required in CD or DVD.


Method 2
  Keep copying the important data from time to time in a folder in your D: drive.


Method 3
 1   Go to Start, click Run.
 2   Type ntbackup and click OK.




 3   Follow steps 3 to 8 of Method 4.

Method 4
Follow the following steps.
    1. Go to Start.

                                     7.0: Virus
When ever a virus is detected on your computer, it should be scanned immediately to
remove any viruses found.


7.0.1 Virus Scanning
It is always recommended to scan your Computer in Safe Mode.

How to Get to Safe Mode
                  i.  Shut down your computer and restart again.
                 ii.  When you start the computer press F8

The technique is to turn the power On and repeatedly tap the F8 key until the startup
menu appears. When you successfully initiate the boot options selection, the window
shown below will open. The menu provides a number of advanced options. The default
selection is "Start Windows Normally" and is highlighted. To open in Safe Mode, select
Safe Mode option using the up arrow key to select it and then press the Enter key.




          2. Go to Start, click All Programs. Click MacAfee and select On Demand
             Scan.
          3. Select All local drives and Click the Start button.

It will take 45-50 mins to scan the system so be patient.
When the scanning is complete you can restart the computer again like you normally do.

Call help desk for further assistance.


It is recommended that Computer should be working Offline (unplug LAN cable) while
Virus Scanning activity. If you do not want to scan the system in safe mode the plug out
the network cable.

14.0.1 Map a Drive
If your own or common drive is not mapped then go to „Start‟ and click „Run‟.
 Type the one of the following address to which you belong in Run:

  3. Select the Drive and Folder from the drop down menu in which you want the
     drive to be accessed from.

14.0.2 Delete the drive
  1. Go to My Computer or the folder in which you have mapped the drive you want
     to delete.

  2. Right click on the drive which you wish to delete.

15.0.1 How can I access my Portal Account?

   1. Go to http://www.lums.edu.pk/ , click on Login.




The window shown below will appear.

   2. Enter User ID and Password in the respective fields.
      Use same Username and Password which is used for checking E-mail.

Following Error comes if you type wrong Username and Password. Try again with
correct Username and Password

Portal password will be changed when you change password of windows or your e-mail.

GFI Fax Client is installed to start sending and receiving fax.




22.0.1 How to Install GFI Fax Client:
Follow the following steps to install the GFI Fax Client.


    1. Double click on the faxclient software setup icon shown below.

22.0.2 How to Send a FAX
1. Open the document you would like to fax as shown in the following screen. Select Print:

3. Press „OK‟. Your document will appear as an attachment in Outlook New Message as shown

4. In “TO” field, enter the number on which you want to send the FAX along with “@lums.fax”
as shown in the below screen.
(For example, if you are sending fax at 5847454, type 5847454@lums.fax in “TO” field)

5. After you have entered the FAX number (fax_number@lums.fax) and press “Send”.


Note:
    For local FAX i.e Lahore, do not include dialing code (042)
    If you are sending on a number, other than Lahore, enter the city dialing code along
      with the FAX number. (e.g. 0511234567@lums.fax, if sending to Islamabad)
    For each FAX, a report is sent to the user

22.0.3 How to view received Fax
All received faxes are forwarded automatically delivered to your Inbox, as shown below. The
email contains a fax report and the fax as an attachment.




Note: The faxes can be attached in several formats, of which the Adobe PDF format is the
recommended option. If using PDF, the fax can be opened in any PDF viewer.

22.0.4 How People outside LUMS can send FAX to LUMS
Personnel:

For sending FAX to LUMS Personnel, please follow the steps given below.


   1. Insert the Page you want to FAX in your FAX machine.

   (Note: Your FAX machine may look different from the one shown in the below images but
   the procedure to send the FAX is same.)




   2. Enter FAX number 5706984 or 5706985. (if sending from Lahore)

   Note: If sending from any other city other than Lahore, enter City code+5706984. (e.g. for
   Islamabad, enter 0515706984 or 0515706985)

3. Press Pause/Flash button on your FAX Machine as shown below.




4. Now enter the „Extension Number‟ of the LUMS Personnel to whom you want to
