JD the hero for England

Jermain Defoe fired England into the last 16 of the World Cup on Wednesday.

The striker grabbed the crucial goal as the Three Lions beat Slovenia 1-0 in a must-win final match
in Group C.

It was a typical goal from Jermain who showed great movement to lose his marker before
converting James Milner's fine cross in the 23rd minute.

That's how it stayed in Port Elizabeth.

'JD' had further chances and a goal disallowed in the second half.

He forced an excellent save from Slovenia goalkeeper Handanovic in the first half and prodded a
sharp chance inches wide 30 seconds into the second half.

Our top scorer last season looked to have doubled England's lead in the 50th minute when he
tapped home Wayne Rooney's cross but Rooney was flagged offside.
Jermain eventually made way for Emile Heskey with five minutes left. Aaron Lennon, Peter Crouch
and Michael Dawson remained in the bench.

There was a late twist in Group C though as USA grabbed an injury time winner against Algeria to
top the group.

England now face a clash against Germany on Sunday while the USA take on Ghana on Saturday.

Frustration for England trio
Aaron Lennon, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch all featured as England played out a disappointing
0-0 draw against Algeria in the World Cup on Friday night.

Winger Aaron started the Group C fixture before being withdrawn for Shaun Wright-Phillips after 63
minutes.

Jermain entered the fray for Emile Heskey after 74 minutes with Peter thrown into the action five
minutes from time for Gareth Barry.

There were few highlights in Cape Town.

'Azza' created England's best chance of the first half when his cross from the right was half-cleared
to Frank Lampard, but Algerian keeper M'Bohli saved the Chelsea man's effort down to his left.

Aaron almost carved out a chance for Wayne Rooney in the 62nd minute, but his cross was flicked
away by defender Bougherra with Rooney waiting to nod home from close range. That was his last
action.

'JD' arrived soon after and 'Crouchy' after that but they had little chance to break the deadlock -
JD's only effort a 25-yard snapshot in injury time that flew over.
England's fate is still in their hands - victory over Slovenia in their final group match on Wednesday
will take them through to the knockout phase.

There was one interesting note for Spurs fans though.

Jamie Carragher picked up a second yellow card of the tournament and will therefore be suspended
for the Slovenia match - it will be between Michael Dawson and Matthew Upson to partner John
Terry on Wednesday.

Dawson waiting on a Dream
England defender Michael Dawson admits it would be a dream to face Algeria on Friday.

The Tottenham centre-back is hoping to fill in for club team-mate Ledley King in the heart of the
Three Lions defence after King was ruled out of England's next Group C game with a groin strain.

Harry Redknapp talks about next season's Champions League, Ledley King, his favourite goal of the
season and our famous 9-1 triumph over Wigan in the current issue of hotspur magazine.

In his exclusive Q&A with fans, the Spurs boss also discusses the managers who have influenced
him, the World Cup and golf's Ryder Cup as he anticipates a great summer of sport.

But he rightly urges caution as we anticipate our first steps in Europe's elite competition, pointing
out that we face a qualifying round that will feature some strong opposition.

Harry says: "It was a marvellous team effort...the players were fantastic. There's a great feeling
about the place...it was a smashing season, I loved it.

"But we have to remember that we face a qualifying round and there are some good teams in there.
I'm certainly hopeful. Now we have to wait for the draw in August but it's a fantastic achievement
to be in there."

Meanwhile, Harry is full of admiration for captain King, whose own conclusion to the season was
inspirational to those around him. He's asked: "How good could Ledley be if he was injury free?"

The manager answers: "Unbelievable really, he's an amazing footballer. He's top, top drawer. How
he can not train regularly and then play like he did at City defied logic. It was amazing."

On Wigan? "One of those days when everything went in. We've been a good team to watch and I
take great pride in how we play."

And Harry's goal of the season? "Danny Rose. That takes some beating...a special goal."

Vier im World Cup Aufgebot für Südafrika
Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Aaron Lennon and Ledley King have been named in England's final
World Cup squad for this summer's finals in South Africa.

All four have made the cut after Head Coach Fabio Capello trimmed his squad from a provisional 30
to a definitive 23 on Tuesday.

It will be JD and Ledley's first World Cup finals after both missed out last time round in 2006. For
Crouchy and Aaron, however, it will be a second Finals after both featured in Germany four years
ago.

The selection means Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone, who were both in the original 30, miss
out on the trip to South Africa.

                                                        Luka Modric
Wir sind froh das der 24jährige Luka einen neuen Vertrag unterzeichnet hat der Ihn bis 2016 an den
Club bindet.

Speaking about his new contract and future ambitions, Luka said, "Tottenham Hotspur gave me my
chance in the Premier League and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them. Yes,
there have been enquiries from other big clubs, but I have no interest in going anywhere. Last
season's Top 4 finish was an indication of where we are as a Club and I feel I can continue to
improve and go on to achieve everything I want to at Spurs."

New contract for Button
David Button has a signed a new contract committing his future to the Club until 2013.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper has enjoyed a successful season, having made his senior Spurs debut in
our Carling Cup second round tie at Doncaster Rovers in August, 2009, as well as spending time on
loan in League Two with Crewe Alexandra and Shrewsbury Town.

David kept two clean sheets in his opening three games for Crewe, playing a total of 10 matches. He
enjoyed further success on moving on loan to New Meadow in January, recording nine shut-outs in
his 26 appearances for The Shrews.

Keane happy to return
Irish skipper ready to go back to London

Keane: Going back to Spurs

Robbie Keane is preparing to head back to Tottenham to fight for a place in the side as they begin
their UEFA Champions League exploits

He does however now feel he is back to somewhere near his best, with 16 goals in 19 appearances
immediately endearing him to the Parkhead faithful.

"I just think I was maybe in a little bit of a rut at Liverpool and going back to Tottenham," he said.

"I did well when I went back first and then did well at the start of the season, and then I just didn't
have that hunger that I had and I think I maybe needed to go away to get that back.

Enjoying football

"I certainly got that back at Celtic. It certainly got me back on track and really enjoying my football
again.

"For me, it is just about playing games. I have got that back now and it's up to me now to go back
to Tottenham and get myself in that team and stay in that team if I get that opportunity.

"As a player, you lose confidence sometimes and I lost confidence maybe a small bit.

"But it is important that you try to get that back as soon as possible, and maybe going to Celtic was
the best thing that happened to me."

Keane revealed that not playing regular football at Anfield was a possible catalyst as to why his
career faltered, stating that he wanted to be playing in every minute of every game.
But despite the rumours of unrest at White Hart Lane, Keane insisted he was happy to go back to
Spurs and try to force his way back into Redknapp's plans.

"I am not one of these people who like to sit on the bench and pick up their money and be happy
with that," Keane added.

"As a kid, you don't dream of playing bits and bobs of games, you want to play every game.

"As a player, that's where you get your sharpness and your fitness.

"I don't like to train every day of the week and then come Saturday, not play. I have always been
like that.

"I am going back to Tottenham to start pre-season and to be at Tottenham unless Harry pulls me in
or the chairman pulls me in and says otherwise."
