9 A SENATE RESOLUTION
10
11 TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE
12 JENKINSVILLE-MONTICELLO-HOREB FIRE
13 DEPARTMENT, UPON THE CLOSING OF ITS ORIGINAL
14 STATION AFTER THIRTY-TWO YEARS OF SERVICE IN
15 THE COMMUNITY, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE
16 MEMBERS OF THE DEPARTMENT AS THEY MOVE TO
17 THEIR NEW LOCATION.
18
19 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful
20 that the firefighters of the Jenkinsville-Monticello-Horeb Fire
21 Department have selflessly performed their services in the
22 Jenkinsville community for thirty-two years; and
23
24 Whereas, under the leadership of the fire department’s board of
25 directors President Odell Baten and the other board members, old
26 gas trucks were purchased and converted into fire trucks to enable
27 the Jenkinsville-Monticello-Horeb Fire Department to begin
28 service in the community; and
29
30 Whereas, the trucks were originally garaged in the yard of the first
31 fire chief, Reverend Thomas E. Feaster, until the current building
32 was acquired; and
33
34 Whereas, under the leadership of long-time fire department board
35 President, the late Lindberg Rabb, volunteers went from house to
36 house collecting twenty dollars a home to help purchase a new fire
37 truck that the firefighters dubbed “Big J”; and
38
39 Whereas, the members of the Jenkinsville-Monticello-Horeb Fire
40 Department have contributed their skills and their heart for service
41 in order to save lives, protect property, and help the people of the
42 community in and around Jenkinsville; and
[972] 1
1
2 Whereas, the Jenkinsville-Monticello-Horeb Fire Department will
3 close its station and move to its new location almost a mile from
4 the present site where it will share facilities with the Sheriff’s
5 Office and the emergency-medical responders. Now, therefore,
6
7 Be it resolved by the Senate:
8
9 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution,
10 recognize and honor the Jenkinsville-Monticello-Horeb Fire
11 Department, upon the closing of its original station after thirty-two
12 years of service in the community, and congratulate the members
13 of the department as they move to their new location.
14
15 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to
16 the Jenkinsville-Monticello-Horeb Fire Department.
